Rebel/Loyalist diplomacy

Guys,

are you successful in building a diplomatic relationships with the opposite fractions, especially of different race later in the game.

I was igonoring their missions though the initial phase of the game (me versus  3 AI) and after the redistribution of the free plants with the borders set I switch to the diplomacy - researched all the techs and I could not get opposite TEC fraction or Advents beyond certain percentage.

According to the info card - their opinion was rising, but mine not.

How to play in this situation in order to make them cooperate. Money gifts effect was capped and deteriorating over time... They did not offer missions, nor send envoys on their own.

I think where should be a way.

There is a tech in the diplomacy tech tree that negates penalties for different races diplomatic relations.

If that does not help ,and as you have said you have researched all the technologies then I'm not really sure about what you are describing, assuming that you are sending envoys to all their planets?.

Have you tried sending the AI's missions? As you had ignored them early in the game, you might have gone past the stage for diplomatic relations because you may have recieved too many negative penalties for destroying their fleets, having close territory, ect.

If you mouse over the tab that shows you the diplomatic relations , it will give you a breakdown of all the factors in the relationship between you and them so you can root out what is getting your relationship to stop rising with them. hope this helps.

to be completely honest I am not playing the diplomacy part that much as I simply do not understand how diplomacy is working.

When I hover mouse as you said - I see diplomatic inclination and diplomatic actions as different lines - what are these? I send envoys it boosted player perception of me, but my perception was constantly low - how BOTH figures can be increased? I am kind of missing an angle here.

Does anyone know any good guide to the diplomacy mechanics? How things are working, anyone?

Racial and diplomatic inclination are base statistics that determine starting standings with another player, the former is obviously based on race (different races have negative racial inclination.) The latter is based on factional relations, TEC Rebels have a horrendous base diplomatic inclination to just about everyone for example. I believe it can be boosted with the techs GoldenLegion mentioned. Diplomatic actions is based on, well, what you've done during the game, if you've given them money, sent them envoys, etc.

Anyway, I believe the problem is that your opinion of them wasn't going up, but their opinion of you was, right? If that's the case, give them missions, ask for money, ask for envoys, etc, your opinion of them goes up the same way their opinion of you does.

Thanks! This is useful.

I have noticed, that you can request send envoy until you have a cease fire agreement. If you relations are that low - asking for resources if the only own opinion boost tool available, is it not?

Yes, if you want to improve the relations boost, try asking for credits from TEC, crystal from Advent, or metal from Vasari, if they've researched specific tech in their diplomacy tree (no way of knowing for sure, but hey,) they get increased boosts for giving those resources.

Thanks Haze!

Does anyone have that diplomacy statistics explained by any chance? String by string?

your opinion of them doesn't change, you are just changing their opinion of you.  that's the simple side of diplomacy.  they are tools to be used and then abandoned.

I never understood that if you worked for improving diplomacy, that clearly means you are trying to woo them over to your cause, why can you not just give them pacts, and if they catch up they give you pacts.

Wouldn't that defeat the point of getting approval over 10 with the same race as you?

It is good to know what I clearly not the only who does not get the diplomacy...

A Guide perhaps, anyone?
