Ad Banner

Geez, always thought Wincustomize was above "in-your-face" advertising, hated to see this new "addition." There, that's off my chest.

I get a pop-up on every page I laod at this site now:

"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly." Then I click OK

While this is annoying I guess it is my own fault for having "*.targetnet.com" in my restricted sites.... But at least I don't get a banner, just a magenta rectangle at the top!

I guess the bills have to be paid somehow.

There will *not* be pop-up ads (we hate those, too)
We're just trying to make WinCustomize pay for some of its bills. (Remember all those past discussions on making WinCustomize self-supporting?) Also, please note, the ads don't change the size of the page. They don't move the sections down. We made sure that they were implemented as unobtrusively as possible.

for which i am grateful

well, if it is a choice between adds, and no wincustomize, adds it is going to have to be.

Meow to that, feline! Good point.

And actually I just made an adjustment that the banner is not shown to users who have Apprentice access or higher.

And in the near future I will expand on that where I will have some system that cross checks our database for products that you have purchased. If it finds that you have purchased any WinCustomize or Stardock product it will hide the banner for you because you are a supporting customer.

Darn it. That still leaves me out. Guess I'll have to do something brilliant and get promoted. Or, more likely, I'll just get used to the banners.

got to love these wonderful adjustments

How did pop-ups get on in the first place?
they didnt as far as i can tell.
perhaps just paranoia, or shrewd marketing to shift more copies of WebBlinds

I like the way we don't see them when apprentice or higher!

Gives an incentive to make skins or contribute constructively to the message board.

Guess I didn't buy that hat for nothing.

Why discriminate between those who skin and those who buy? Boils down to "us vs them", in my opinion. I understand the need for reimbursment, but the banner contiues for me, guess I didn't spend enough.................? Capitalism at it's best!!

The system isn't automated yet. Basically, people who contribute to the site will usually get their access raised but it's a manual process.
