Odd crash problem

Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately for the devs I can't give them a detailed way of reproducing this issue but I was wondering if anyone has ever come across this problem before.

I just play the game normally, it goes good, but after 2 hours or so, from the start of the game, the entire thing just goes kaputz on me.  I get the 'ding' sound like the game has encountered an error and has been closed down as a result.  Except I can't click on it because when I try to the entire game, and the error that pops up, minimizes.  Whats worse is the game never actually closes, it just sits there on my task bar, I can't maximize, can't get the error window to appear, can't do anything aside from ending the task in Task Manager.

There's no error in the event viewer, I've looked over every section and can't find anything.

If I reload a save, or an auto-save, I can keep playing past the point of the crash, so it's not an action that's being performed at the time, at least not by me anyways since it can happen even when I'm just sitting there staring at the screen.  Even if I rebuild the structures, fleet items and research that I had before, it won't cause the crash.

However if I keep playing it, it will crash again, a couple hours down the road.  I can keep reloading a save and play past the point of the crash but it'll crash again eventually.  And each time the crash will come sooner allowing me less and less time to play.  An example would be like I get 2 hours from start of the game, then 1:45, then 1:30, then 1:00, etc.,  Times aren't exact but it gives you a rough idea.

Another odd thing is if I go to the item in the task bar and try to close it.  Something closes as the song that was playing at the time of the crash resumes until it finishes and then I get nothing.  Task Manager doesn't even consider the game to be in a problematic mode and says it's still running fine.  Also, after this point the icon in the task manager does nothing, all the options in it might as well be commented out as they don't do anything.

It's almost like a memory leak problem, but something like that would have been caught by the community by now.

These are the specs of my computer:
Intel Core i7 920 2.67Ghz
6.00Gb 1333 DDR3 Ram
Windows 7 Professional (OEM if that matters) with latest updates
NVidia GeForce GTX 570 (Driver - 8.17.12.9610)
Auzentech X-Fi Forte with Sennheiser PC 350 Headset

Not sure what else would be needed but I figured that's enough.  Regardless my computer is MORE than powerful enough to run this game smoothly so I don't know what the issue is.

That being said I've always had problems with steam games.  It's been very touch and go with which games work and which do not.  Example, none of the half-life/counter-strike/team fortress games work, The Witcher doesn't work, none of the GTA games work, None of the Warhammer 40k games work.  But others do like the Civ games, CoD games, Spore, Terraria, Titan Quest and Overlord II to name a few.

Oddly enough I had this issue with the original Sins as well.  It was fixed some time after release but before Entrenchment although I don't remember exactly what fixed the problem, it was a long time ago.

Anyways, hoping someone has encountered this problem somewhere, even if it's in another game, and knows how to solve it.

Hi,

I have a similar problem, my game crashes after several hours playing. Normally at the auto-save points 1.15, 1.30 so i deactivated the auto-saves and saved manual. My game still crashes, but i think that's related with the Crash to Desktop Bug.

I don't know if that's the same problem you have, but i hope it helps you.

I'm also having these (or very similar) same random crashes.  They're happening at random (can't reproduce them) and only after a considerable playtime.  I've fiddled with auto-save on/off, and that doesn't seem to be making a difference.

My computer is also more than capable of running this game without any problems (I've logged plenty of time in Sins before), so that seems unlikely to be the problem.  Drivers are up to date.  I've also never had any (consistent - all games have the odd bug) problems with Steam.

However, sometimes I can get the game running again, sometimes I have the same issue as the OP, whereby none of my icons seem to be working and the computer seems to think the game is running fine.
