Titan and starbase

1) Aren't titans meant to be fleet killers? I've read about posts that just put their titan on the edge of a pirate base and owned them all. However, when I tried that my titan nearly died. Though I guess that could be because as far as I saw Titans were made a bit weaker with Beta 2. However, could someone shed a light on that?

2) I get the feeling starbases have weakened. I had 2 starbases beside eachother as TEC Loyalists and they got owned without even taking out a significant portion of the enemy fleet. Is this just me?

1: Some titans have an easier time taking out large fleets by themselves. The TEC Loyalist titan can pretty much be left alone as long is it has it's self-repair ability available.

2: Ogrovs maybe? Ogrovs deal massive damage to starbases and pretty much kill them in seconds. They are the first targets to take out in an enemy fleet and usually reguire either large numers of strikecraft or a protective fleet. of your own. Corvette swarms do massive damage to starbases, too. They are hard to targt with regular weapons, making them hard to counter with a starbase.

It also depends on the Titan's level, your upgrades, and how many pirates are sitting around (the number goes up over time). If you need to retreat and repair a bit before coming back, that's necessary sometimes.

Yep even a TEC loyalist titan cant take on pirate base after 3-4 hours, however give it a 3 of TEC Dunov Capital ships can wipe out any pirate base granted you gave the shield recharge ability, your titan has the AOE lightning attack thingy and recharge ability. For other factions its nearly imposible to destroy pirate bases without losses.

Heck you don't even need the Dunov. You can solo the pirate base if you have just a couple of hoshis regardless if it's a TEC rebel or loyalists titan.

Were they upgraded? Two starbases with max hull/weapons, even without docking booms, a couple repair platforms, and a few close hangers upgraded with flak turrents as damage sponges/AA, all as close as possible to a planet to try to defend it is how I usually go. A few bombers for anything that outranges them, and I've had that set up hold against respectable, titan fleets fine. Both TEC or Advent.

Unless you're playing versus a player, or a horde of Ogrovs, I'm surprised. Some advent abilities maybe? I'd be curious for some more details on the situation. Even without the defense fleet I have a few worlds away, a pair of starbases aren't something that should be brushed aside.

EDIT: A lamer, AI exclusive "tip". If the bottleneck is really a high threat area, and it has to hold... Park an Akkan behind the starbases. Not only does it usually get prioritized higher, drawing in more attention toward it and through the starbase fire, but with a couple levels of targetting uplink, the starbases can outrange an Ogrov. Ion bolt helps mitigate as well. As EXP comes quick when there is actual fighting, you should always try to leave SOME capital in the grav well if you cant. Throw in whatever other tactical slot structures you want, say twin docking bays for 100% uptime, and you have a freakishly tough nut (for the AI) to crack. A player with a brain would probably eventually wreck it without fleet support, though. Booo, brains.

Riiiight. I'd gotten the idea that people just sent in the titan VS pirates (titan lvl 1) on it's own. Didn't think to send support with (A)

Ofcourse the starbases were fully upgraded ;) I'm not that silly :D

Ogrovs... Yea I guess that could be it. Don't remember the fleet composition, was a couple of days ago D:

Does AI use corvettes? Because from what i've seen starbases are also kind of useless vs corvettes.

Meh, i'm not good enough for MP :D

Nah what the situation was: I'd attacked and taken over a gravity well from TEC R. Surprisingly when I tried to take out the next one they nearly wiped my fleet and hammered me. Recaptured the grav well I previously captured and took out the 2 starbases I had put there for defence.

Do Pirates also increase in number if they're inactive?

Off-topic: I've noticed that pirate bases also have mines now. Pretty cool :D
