Issue with objectdock 2 with 2 monitors

Hi

I have my objectdocks on my 2nd monitor, I use the defult windows screen saver and when i return the objectdock always moves to the 1st monitor.

I have to change it back to the 2nd monitor all the time.

is there a way to prevdnt this?

Are you dragging the docks or have you set teh dock to the 2nd monitor in the configuration?

I am setting it to Monitor 2 from the menu as you have shown above.

But when my PC goes into Screen saver mode and then the monitor turns its self off the dock moves over to the primary screen wwhen i start my monitor back up.

Any more information about your computer setup?  Windows version?  Is this a laptop with a monitor hooked up to it?

Just curious if it is a dual monitor aware screen saver? The screen saver creation software I have has the choice of turning on/off two monitor awareness. Some of the Microsoft ones haven't a clue, they happily run the screen saver on the dominant monitor and totally ignore the other. Perhaps that would confuse object dock?

I have win 7 64bit I am runnning it on a Dell PC XPS 8300.

I am using the defult Dell Screen savers but some of them do not have any options to change anything.

Do you have one called "Ribbons"? It is definitely dual-monitor aware. So is a Vista one called Aurora, only it just recognizes to paint each screen. I have some I have made, although they don't bother my gadgets they seem to be acting a bit odd. I can link you one if you'd like, they are nature photos.

Liz, did you know we have a screensaver gallery here at WC? Yours should be there?   ;)

Working on it. After bragging about the dual monitor feature, I decided I didn't like how it looked. You are welcome to test drive either or both of the two. One is Roses, the other favorite shots from my thousands of photos (I think about 70) Maybe the crankiness is the fact that I have a big monitor and a small one and have told Windows the exact orientation of each to the other (the small one quite a bit lower than the larger as shown by the screenshots for April) Let me know if you'd like to see them and I'll post them up someplace.

I actually have a dual monitor system with one bigger than the other. I wish I had both the same size.

I'd love to see some of your screensavers in action!

Favorite Photos Screensaver Installer (38Mb)

Favorite Photos Screensaver .scr only (38Mb)

Summer Roses Screensaver Installer (9Mb)

Summer Roses Screensaver .scr only (13Mb)

There. I was ready to upload what I had and realized the Roses one was 111Mb.  So, I redid the photos and got it down to 13Mb. Let me know if I went too far. Then I looked at the Favorites one and decided that it needed a diet and said "forget it" for now. Funny thing is, the Favorites one has photos all under 1Mb and the roses were redone to all the same size and 1.5mb. Shrug.  One weird thing that the software creator says "buy the next edition it's fixed there" is the bouncing back and forth by whatever is placed anywhere except the upper left corner of the screen (choice is clock or calendar) If that is too annoying then you can turn it off. The weirdness is that on my setup where the small monitor is not the primary one (but is the main of the laptop) the photos deliver themselves in the upper middle and stay there, without using the whole screen. This is why I was considering not sharing it. Another "hidden" bug, if it happens, is that sometimes it gets to restarting the music every time it loads a new photo. I can't remember what I did to outwit the goofy thing, but my quick solution was to bundle it with only one song :) There was some odd thing with the repeat function.  I should have said originally that I can make a photos only screen saver that works with dual monitors.

Hi all

1st off can i thank you all for giving me advice on my problem. Your all very kind and its not so often you find such a friendly community like yours.

LizMarr I do have ribbons and I have activated it, I was using bubbles before and that seemed to not have any issues, but when i turned my screen off via the button (this was because i went out and had to leave my PC on to finish backing up my data) and turned it back on when I returned the object bar moved over to the primary monitor again.

Both my screens are 24" HD 1080p.

Unless there's some compelling reason to use screensavers, stop using them. Never use the button.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings: Turn Off Display: X (pick a time frame in the drop down)

Simple mouse movement and you're back on. Nothing on your screens will budge.

Learn something new every day.

Funny how one person's setup behaves different than another. I don't use any of those things like sleep, hibernate (what's the difference anyway) or such. On and off and log-whatever is it. No problems. I nearly always use the ss because I am on and off up to 4 computers all day (thank you Multiplicity) At night when I sleep it goes to shut down the monitor, but only after an extended time as I have a husband that snores really loud and continuously and that produces insomnia on my part and I'm on and off my pc. I'm slowly getting used to said husband after he has been 8 years in the middle east (teaching, not shooting) That much on and off would be hard on my vid card I would think, so that is why I don't shut down  the monitor using the settings. Big monitor gets shut down with its off switch, built in monitor by closing the lid (set to still run)

Well it seem like the issue is with the screen being turned off either by my power option or by me switching it off.

This is one of the never addressed, long-standing bugs with objectdock going back at least 4-5 years.  There are many.

The same thing happens at logon/reboot, if your mouse is not hovering over your primary monitor's screen during the startup of objectdock.  Yes, the position of the mouse over one monitor or another is the key here.

So if you have docks on Monitor 2, which is to the right of Monitor 1 (your primary), AND you leave the mouse hovering in Monitor 1's screen space, all is well.  If, on the other hand, the mouse is hovering over Monitor 2, then the objectdocks that were supposed to be on Monitor 2 will instead appear on Monitor 1.

The only fix is to tell Objectdock to quit/unload and run again.  This time, leave the mouse in Monitor 1's screen space until the docks initialize. And all will be well.

As you can tell, I have dealt with this bug every day for many, many years.  Fortunately, since Windows 7, I don't restart/logoff my computer often enough for this to be a pain like it used to be.   8P
