Annie the Dog, Sand Golem, etc. not able to hang at higher levels.

Before, in E:WOM, I noticed that familiars and summoned creatures would be able to remain useful for a time, but at some point because of all of the upgrades that champions, units, and sovereigns were getting, they became less and less competitive.

With Mr.Familiar(tm) at least, his resummoning cost was low enough that using him as a distraction/redshirt while the more powerful units jockeyed for position was an option I took advantage of a lot.  The current summon nature spell still kind of accomplishes this to a degree.

However, I think it might be nice if the 'summoned by artifact' units were more competitive in the level advancement area, so that Annie The Dog might be able to stick around for a while, instead of being constantly wiped out on the battlefield once the stakes/combat stats get more lethal.  I recently parked a summoned Sand Golem in a city in my most recent game,  just so I wouldn't have to bear watching him get wasted almost immediately in my travels, which was a shame.

I would rather have kept my Sand Golem around, if his combat and defensive abilities would have increased through experience/successful battles at a pace that would have kept him relevant, but under the current system that isn't really happening.

Attack ability advancement probably isn't as important, but hit points/defense is something that should increase at a more comparable rate, otherwise said units are just speed bumps in later stages of the game.

It is nice to have units/champions that you grow attached to because they've survived many combats alongside you that are able stick around as you grow in experience, so when they do finally fall you feel like you lost something important, instead of just a throwaway token.

Maybe.

On the other hand, I think that players often sell the tokens for gold instead of summoning them. The tradeoff is thus whether or not to use the summon right away, when it is presumably still useful, or to sell it right away for useful money. I don't think they're meant to be anything that sticks around for a long time.

If you get the sand golem early game it can be useful.  Annie the dog never is useful and you are much better selling it than summing her. It would be nice if they were useful at some point in the game and also gained meaningful levels.

I would agree that the dog is almost never useful.

The dog is a joke. Totally worthless.

I'd remove the dog token and instead turn it into some kinda quest (Return lost dog?). A magic dog token is kinda silly anyway.

As for the golem, ive always thought that there should be a quest that upgrades it into a stone golem if you level it enough.

I really like the concept of both units, but since they tend to get one-shotted, they're nothing more than an HP drain bag until they die. If they had more special abilities and/or scaled up in levels, their usefulness would be more justified.

I think dog is suppose to be used as a scout unit because it has 4 moves per turn, which is very useful in the early game to find all the shards and other resources on the map, so you could plan better which way to expand and so on. I use it to find all the heroes on the map so i can hire best one available early on.

As for golem, leveling up an elemental or golem should add to its defence and attack stats, that way it wouldn't be so useless.

I usually just sell them even early game, I find that even the golem dont have enough hp to survive the random spider attack.
Would love to see them atleast a little more usefull.
