New type of Fleet Warp Bubble--but for range instead of speed

I'm trying to create a new tech and ship module which provides a range boost for the entire fleet the ship is within. (With something like this AND regular Fleet Warp Bubbles for speed, you can approximate something like a carrier fleet.)

But... is it possible to achieve this kind of effect in game?  I'm familiar with the xml file formats & basic tech tree stuff, how regular techs work, but haven't been able to figure out how warp bubbles "work".

I don't think it's possible.  The game's code would have to support it.

There's nothing in the XML file that will allow you to specify a range bonus for a whole fleet, just one ship.

Didn't think so.  What I think I'll do is try "cheating" by creating an additional tech to use for tiny & small hulls only (by house rule) which costs 1 and takes up 0 space to add the extra needed range... and I'll keep the "fighters" within 1-turn movement range of the "carrier" mother ship at all times.  :)

Think that'll work?  I think it'll have the right effect (sucks for the AI), so who says there aren't carriers in Galciv? :p

I wouldn't do it, if a component takes up zero space then the AI might get into a long loop spamming it onto a design.

Besides, range is ludicrously easy to get at the moment.

Personally, I think Fleet Warp Bubbles can be used to make a passable "carrier" all on their own as it is, anyway.

@Marvin - Not if I make my own tech tree that the AI doesn't have access to. :)

You'd have to disable tech stealing and such, or they might get it anyway...

That is unnecessary, if he sets the tech to cannot be traded\stolen.

Funsies. Perhaps I shouldn't comment on modding questions. ^_^
