Does Anyone Else Not Like How Units Are Handled In Elemental?

Playing FE for the past couple of hours, I think its a lot better than WOM and a huge improvement, but I think how units are handled on the map are a complete pain.

1. Moving an army from a city to land or to attack someone is a complete pain when you have to select each individual unit to group them. It would be nice if when you click on the city then click on an area of the map, the entire army garrisoned will move to that position allowing to quickly move the army. Either that are a quick way to select all.

2. I really don't like have different amount of quantities for training, I think it's kind of pointless but if that can't removed... can you please make it so we can upgrade existing units to a higher quantity so we don't have to disband and re-train.

I agree with both. I wish they would allows us to create Army Groups (and name them.)

For example: If I have a Spearman, Light Archer and Champ in a stack I should be able to make it into an Army and name it (1st Division or somthing) Then even if they are in a town they will be attach until I break them up.

If I want to move the Spearman out of the Army I would detact him and move him on. And if I want to add another unit then I move it onto the stack and hit Attach to Army.

Definite agreement from me on this.  It has annoyed me since WoM.

Madness! Everybody knows that when more than a company of troops is collected, administrative overhead develops!  Try to understand the beauty of the world Stardock is giving us to play in: you can have military formations without paperwork!

Or perhaps the nice folks at Stardock could take a look at Mount&Blade and see what can be done towards creating mixed units. I'd really love it if I could establish a line and have it protect archers. It would be cool if flanks meant something.

I think that the UI needs to be better for selecting armies/ army groups, especially from inside a city ... but I disagree with the other suggestion.

I think upgrading from parties to groups to companies is pretty awesome, and having it stuck at one value for the entire game seems a little boring.

Well that why I said if it's not removed, how about allowing us to upgrade units to higher quantities... so we don't have to disband/ re-train.

I don't like the idea of clicking a city and clicking a square to move the garrison since you can do it by accident pretty easily.

I think forming units into "armies" makes sense and it is really easy to do programming wise (the AI probably does this already). So that can probably be added, though after playing MoM so much I got used to having to select all the units each time.

Yea that my be true, it's seems to be very hard clicking on stuff in FE... sometimes I find my self clicking things 3 or more times to get it to be active, so that may be an issue... perhaps allowing us to make formations would be the way to go, and possibly a quick select all keyboard command for those who don't want to put armies in formations.

YES! I think you should allow us (the humans) to make army groups via Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, etc.

Then, whether the army is on the road OR IN A CITY ... clicking the number will bring up the army.

Therefore if you want to move the army outside of a city just hit 1 and then click. No need to shift-click all those units.

(especially since my shift-click UI is bugging horribly, moving all over the place)

I think there just needs to be a way to set army groups.  If I make six individual units an army I can always select them with one click on any unit in the army or from some sort of army management UI.  They stay as an army until I disband the army, at which point they go back to being individually controlled units.

Armies should also be nameable, so we can have good fantasy names for each of our armies.

As for the other point, I think if they implement a way for you to upgrade size of a unit there needs to be some sort of penalty.  The unit loses a level or two or suffers a temporary decrease in per unit combat effectiveness.  There should be a real decision about whether or not you want to increase size of existing units.  It should not be an automatic decision to increase everything once you learn the relevant tech.

Besides, you wouldn't add new people to an elite unit of soldiers and expect them to perform as well with the new people.  Not right away anyway.

Well I was thinking that when you "upgrade" it should cost a certain amount of gold, but I like having a short penalty too...

Couldn't agree more. I looked the other day and I have played Warbands for over 350 hours.  Great game.

And these changes can be done with tactical TBS combat.  Movement around units should be slowed and more difficult, ZOC.  Tactical movement should also be greatly reduced altogether.  Ranged weapons should have less range, or have bigger battlefields.  More diverse battlefields.  Defending walls, forts, etc.  Attacking a unit from its front should provide penalties to hit, and attacking their rear an advantage.

I like the idea of making groups.

It sure would make thing simpler.
