Questions of WindowsFX 5 Beta

Having lots of fun with the beta. However my task bar (Windows 7) is gone. Been flicking off and on a bunch of the options in the Beta but my task bar won't come back - It's set to be hidden and when I move my cursor to the bottom edge it should show up. Is there a conflict with one of the options? Even after I turn off Windows FX the task bar is gone - gone as I'm typing this.  |-)

thanks for a new fun tool.

Did you try going to control panel and selecting the Taskbar and Start Menu?  You should be able to reset it that way.

I rebooted and got it back with FX disabled. Then I made the task bar so it wasn't 'auto-hide' and also locked it. Then started FX. Task bar is still there. I've been on Windows from the beginning, and never did I know there was a Taskbar and Start Menu icon in the Control Panel. Many thanks, I learn something new everyday!

Oh, and I just turned on auto-hide and removed 'lock' and it's now back and working fine.

Lots of fun on a Friday night!   :D

Some of my windows disappear when I try to move them, then come back when I release the left button. Some don't they just jiggle as I move them. Why the disappearing act I wonder?

Try rebooting.

Also what graphics card do you have?

Rebooting didn't make a difference with the windows blanking out when I move them. As soon as I let go of the left mouse button they come back. I sort of thought they would flop around when I moved them. Oh, some do! My browser Google Chrome for example is pefect. Juggles around as I move it. Others though disappear then come back.

Isn't there a setting to make windows transparent when moving? Turned up a bit high perhaps?

Good pointer. Haven't got it fixed yet, but playing around with the 'movement' tab options. Turned most of them off and getting some results.

Thanks,

Have to go, tomorrow I'll play some more. Thanks for your help.

Is there anything different about the windows that work and the ones that do not?

Perhaps the size of the window?  If so try resizing a working one and see if it stops working.

Also do the open, close, min, restore animations all work ok even on the windows which do not do the window drag correctly?

Animations don't work on the ones that disappear. Shrinking it, simply shrinks it. Same to making it full screen. A good example is Windows Explorer. Another is something I used called 2Xplorer which does similar things to Windows Explorer.  Microsoft Outlook (2007) is another one that disappears when I try and move it. Stays hidden until I release the mouse button (left). I suppose 'transparent' is a better explanation, since it shows up when I release the left button at the place where the mouse pointer is moved to. Microsoft Word (2007) works fine - doesn't disappear and I can jiggle it around. Same with Excel.

Not sure of the similarities.

Normally I believe High DPI is defined when the display setting is set to LARGER - 150%... Mine is set to SMALLER - 100% (Default). I'm running on an Acer X233H at 1920x1080.

As an aside... I'm running RightClick and Cursor FX. As well Deskscapes3 is running too.  FYI  :|

My gut feeling is that DESKSCAPES3 running in the background is screwing up Windows FX. Checking around and no where can I find out how to turn off Desckscapes. The button on the bottom left that says to turn it off doesn't work. I really don't want to uninstall it as I would have to rebuild all the settings which I like. Will do if I have to. No where in MSCONFIG do I see where it's launched. And no where in Task Manager do I see a process that's linked to Deskscapes.

In what way does the Disable DeskScapes option not work for you?

It should revert you back to a normal static wallpaper and turn off all the advanced features that DeskScapes offers.

Ok, as I'm typing.... Clicked on DeskScapes 3 Configuration App. Then clicked on Disable Deskcapes  ... A new picure showed up on the window, of the configuration app,  but a minute later my desktop changed to another background. (I've set it up to randomly change every minute). Thus DeskScapes is definitely still running. If I knew what module is doing this, I'd shut the sucker down. My background keeps changing as I'm typing this, so Deskscapes is definitely doing it's thing.

Got any other ideas on how to kill it? How can I stop it from coming up at boot time for example?

Do you have the Windows shuffle wallpaper on?

Interesting, thanks. Never heard of that option, and voila it IS on. Turned it off.

Disabled DeskScapes

Background still changing. Interesting now it's changing every 10 seconds and using two pictures in the Stardock folder, NOT my folders.

Ok, going back to Shuffle option...

No way to turn off the background stuff. Turned off 'shuffle' but it still changes the picture every xx seconds.

This time I used a solid colour.

Looks like DeskScapes did indeed turn off.

Many thanks for the pointer. Now back to my WindowFX Beta testing.

:-)

Looks like DeskScapes is NOT the problem. If DeskScapes is indeed turned off, then same old problem. Installed Office 2010 and all of them disappear when I select the top bar and try to drag them to another part of the desktop. Most of my windows do the same, but some behave the WindowFX way - Google Chrome for example from which I'm typing this.

Oh well, back to the drawing board... :-)

What happens with notepad as thats an app I know works perfectly with animations of all kinds.

Re-installed what they call Beta 1 (the 'about' doesn't tell you anything that it's Version 5.0). Same problems. Notepad is ok though!  |-)

and notepad remains working regardless of the size you make the window?

Are the problem apps all 32 bit (so show in the taskmanager with a *32 next to the name in the processes tab)?

Resizing Notepad makes no difference. I've got only one process that has a *32 and it's in the description field - something called ipod service module.

Isnt RightClick not 100% compatible with windows vista or 7, and i do know that it is no longer being developed or updated, till a future rewrite of the code is done.  Maybe this could be part of the problems? I just noticed that this is running, maybe look at it?
