Windows FX 5 Beta

Can't install - invalid serial number

WindowsFX Beta doesn't recognize my serial number. Amazing it's the same as the one for my Stardock account. What a surprise! Sent a note back to "info" with a picture of the problem and my serial number. Anyone else I should be bugging?

I've sent you a PM with a better serial.  Yours was . . . older.  :)

You can also get it at https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

Thanks for being a loyal customer

(And thanks for being a Object Desktop subscriber since 10/15/1997)

Off topic question: I wonder how long I've been a subscriber. I've been using it since IBM OS/2 I believe version Object Desktop .92 ... something like that. A great set of products. :-) Now that I think more about it, I think it was version .89. Still not sure. Us retired guys forget stuff.  O:)

I'm trying to be really objective here ...

The apps UI is way better then in FX4, way better!

I was hoping for this:

Like at 0:20 in the video .. there is no such animation

@0:28 there are no wobbly windows

@0:34 there is no fluid draw, liquid window or whatever you call it

@1:30 there's a window flip there ... can't seem to find it at all in FX5

Now, If I'm wrong I'm wrong!  Just show me were these settings are!  I just seems to be the same thing in a different wrapper.

OR .. some body mocked up linux to look like windows and was rocking compiz or metacity.

OR .. there are some setting I'm just not seeing at ALL!

Another problem is that when coming from out of sleep it takes a minute or two before the sys is useable.  I wasn't like that before I put the beta on.   Plus, it like to hang a little bit when using Widows key+Tab to switch window or when in Firefox it'll hang a little when going between tabs.

OS: Vista 64-bit

I appreciate any input!

The problem is you are using Windows Vista.

All of those features are for Windows 7 as the video stated.

Would one be better served to stay with WFX 4 on Vista?

Alas Windows Vista is not capable of these effects.

I think I can count on the hands of one arm the number of people who still prefer Vista after using Win7.  [that'll be Snowman]....

....MrBiggZ .... this is just yet another incentive to UPgrade to 7 from it's poor cousin...;)

Alright! Loved this from the start. (Was a bit p'od with IBM for dumping OS/2 but I'm ok with Windows now - hmmmm thinking --- maybe I'm ok with Windows because you guys brought the good stuff over in Object Desktop. Never thought of that before - Congratulations! :-)  )

I am running WindowFX5 beta on my HP DC7800SFF equipped with an Intel C2Q - Q9300 processor and 8 Gb internal (OCZ) high speed DDR2 memory with Windows OS - 7 x64 and ever since I installed WindowFX5 beta every time if my GPU is being asked to come into play (running /streaming video aka YouTube or any flash video or even running AVCHD MPEG4 video on Windows Media Player causing the Nvidea GPU driver crashes.

Can I't I get a serial for WindowFX4 until the FX5 beta becomes a stable version. I like the features of WindowFX but these crashed are something I do not want / need right now.

Regards

Anthony

It sounds like your video drivers have a bug as it is not possible for an application like WindowFX to crash a video driver unless the video driver has a serious bug.  You may want to try upgrading to the latest driver, or if you have that perhaps using a slightly older driver.  With video drivers we have found newer is not always better.

Regarding access to WindowFX4, you would need to contact sales@stardock.com and they may be able to help you.

Also you have not mentioned with Nvidia card you have.  Hopefully it isn't a 7800GTS.

WFX5 rocks! :pizza:

My favorite feature is the 'Make transparent to mouse clicks and pinned on top' option under Window Transparency in the right-click menu.  I like watching a video while typing behind it.  :)
