Champion Guard Idea

I would like to see Champions have the ability either through equipment, trait upgrade, or some other means. Be able to acquire honor guards, body guards, etc. Instead of having them just being a single unit, surrounded by multi group units through out the whole game.  This be mostly a cosmetic change so they look like they are more important and protected. Always seems in armies in history or in fantasy\sci-fi novels, any leaders or important warriors always had guards to watch there backs during battles. Champions do become quite important in the game. Especially now with the army wide trait bonuses they can get. It also kinda bugs me how they stand out so much being a single unit in a single tile, while surrounded by companies of men.

Maybe have different types of guards. Guards that give bonus to defense, or attack. Perhaps a mage base champion can get acolytes or apprentices that stand with them in battle and help cast. Or give special abilities like shielding the unit from melee or range damage with big shields or magic barriers.

Do realize this would make some champions even more powerful, and adds some balance issue depending on how it would be implemented.

Maybe just an option to 'assign' a current existing unit as the bodyguard which would simply apply some bonuses to the Sov.
For example, if you 'assign' a basic infantry unit as the bodyguard, the Sov would get +attack and +armor

or

'assigning' archers could give them + vs ranged attacks...

etc etc.. interesting concept indeed. It's just a different form of simply giving them equipment.

I thought of this as well, but I didn't want to get into the whole attaching a command unit thing to units. Though it would be one way of implementing it.  Definitely would work since we do get to design the units after all.
