this is my first attempt at a windowblinds skin (well, that's not true, but what i did in paint when i was 15 doesn't really count) and i can't figure out how to make the right side line up correctly =( i've tried everything i can think of and it's just not working. help? =(

open skinstudio - edit startmenu and taskbar - edit startmenu - program list - on the bottom you will have the riders  image glyph painting text animation code editor - click on text  and set the margins for the left higher until it fits =)
You can also trick this by changing the item mouseover botton to a shorter transpoarent button ( a button that has space of transperancy on the left side )

that's not the problem... my issue right now is that the image for the places list isn't lining up with the rest of the images.

Look on the Extras tab for each part. You will see Width of Part and Height of Part settings. Make sure those match exactly what your image size really is.

Sorry :D i just took a look at the picture thought you mean the buttons...didnt even notice that the places list isnt alligningas Xiandi said check the width and height values
Also take a look at your painting margins set them all to 0 if that doesnt work it can be that you have cutted places out and missed some pixels to complete the image ( wrong cutting ) i do that a lot therefore i alway check twice

OK, should be something with how you cut it then.

Top part width (and/or bottom part width) = Left side width + Right side width.

When you cut your start panel into pieces, you need to be sure the pieces are cut exactly right. the math needs to add up or you get things misaligned when you put it in. Don't forget to include any transparency around the edges in your cuts too. If you have 5 pixels transparency on the right side of the top part, then your right side part should have that amount of transparency too. Make sense?

i have another question, how does the "expanded start menu" work? because i'm having trouble with that now =P it's the same width as the search mode menu and uses the same images, but stretches differently o_O

you have to cut new images for those.....

top search mode must be the same width as your top part, but longer height wise

search bottom mode is the same image as the "all programs background" but you cut it so its width goes right across to the end of the places list

Dont forget to set painting margins for both of those new parts.

make sure you pay special attention to when you are cutting frames, or startmenu pieces for skinstudio, one pixel wrong, and you have to do it again.... its worth taking your time and cutting it properly the first time.

hope this helps

yes, as i said, i have the search mode done. the extended start menu (when you hover over paint or something and it opens a menu of things you can open) is using the same images in that (except cut differently, obviously) but they get all stretched out even though it's the same size as the search mode. i don't know why.

The setting to tell it how far to stretch is in the Extras tab on the top part. Recent Documents Expansion Value. The higher the number, the more it will stretch. You have a couple options with this.

You can set the expansion amount to zero, so it does not stretch at all, or...

If you want it to stretch, set it to some number you like, but make sure your painting margins are set on the parts so they cover everything you don't want stretched (on yours, basically you will need to set them to cover all the edges, so only the smooth white center does the stretching.

That make sense to you?
