It may be easier for you to install (copy and paste, or if it's a zip extract to) the package to the Iconpackager folder.

Or just download it with IE.

I have come up with a similar problem. Some packages, mainly older issues, do not show in the IP interface, just blanks where icons should be. When i "apply" them, some packages work and others don't. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program about 4 times with no improvement. When zip files are downloaded, I manually place the icon folder in the appropriate location as recommended above by Starcandy. So I am missing the "previews" of various packages. This bug just started out of the blue about 2 or 3 weeks ago, working fine before that. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Okay jexadox and copperhill I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and IE 9 is my browser.  I just downloaded three of the newest IconPackagers.  All I did was hit the download button on each IconPackager page and they extracted directed to IconPackager which then opened up to show me they were there.

I don't use FireFox or any other browser when downloading from the WC Libraries so maybe someone who does will reply with how they download.  :sun:

Philly,

Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit, I.E. browser. In my case the lack of previews happen with older IP's, such as Alpha3, Brilliance and ThePreface. IP's made by Vampothica or Cliff or any made in the past couple of years work and display just fine. Strange.

CopperHill I have all of mrSkope's stuff and I just downloaded the other two you mentioned without a problem.  You should check and make sure you have the current version.  I have  5.10.032.  If you do you might want to try uninstalling IconPackager running a clean up program, rebooting and then reinstall from https://store.stardock.com/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/myaccount/products  it's possible that your download has gotten messed up.

Hopefully that will solve the problem for you.  :sun:

Philly,

Did the re-install and everything seems to be working fine. One final question. How can I send the IP shortcut to my start menu? When I right-click on it, there is no option for this like with all of the other OD programs.

Thanks again,
CopperHill

CopperHill, good question.  I use ObjectDock and Fences all I do is put a shortcut on the desktop and drag and drop.  I'm not sure if that will work will with the Start menu.  Worth a try.  :sun:

Nope, the start menu won't stay up while I'm dragging the shortcut. It's just strange that every other shortcut gives you the right-click option to "pin to taskbar/start menu" except IconPackager.

Give this a try CopperHill, it worked for me.  With the mouse on the task bar right click and then select Properties.  Then select the Start Menu Tab, then customize.  Towards the bottom you will see a option for start menu size, increase to say 20 and then click okay and then apply and okay again. Open the start menu and then you will that it is very big.  You should also see the short cut for Icon Packager.  Left click on it and move it to the top on the left hand side.  You can then go back and resize the Start Menue.  Now when you open the Start Menu you should see the short cut.  Click on it and it should open Icon Packager.

Hope that works for you.  :sun:

EDIT:  Or you can just right click on the short cut and pin to the start menu or the taskbar,  duhhhhhh.  hehehehe

That didn't work for me. Oh well, thanks for trying.

Hmmm.  Should have worked.

So I put a desktop short cut for IconPackager on the desktop and right clicked and there is an option to pin to taskbar or start menu.  Don't know why you are not seeing it.

It's strange because I have those options right-clicking every other shortcut in my computer, everyone except IP.

copperhill, here is a little tutorial you can follow to solve any "pin to taskbar" or "pin to start menu"  issues.

1.) Right-click on any open space on your desktop screen

2.) go to "New" > then choose "text document"

3.) name the text document anything you like except IconPackager, or you will end up with the same problem. I would simply name it "IP"

4.)Next you will want to change the extention from .txt  to  .exe  , so again right-click > rename. A warning will pop up asking if you really want to change the extention, say "yes"

5.) now you should see a default icon with the name "IP.exe"    > now, right click on that and you should see the options to "pin to taskbar" and "pin to start menu" options.

6.) now, after you have "pinned", go to that icon in either the taskbar or start menu or wherever you pinned it ,and right-click and choose "properties"

7.) here is where you set the path to the target program. In this case it is the IconPackager Program. so enter the path to that program in the "Target" box. an example of the path to type would be similar to this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconPackager\IconPackager.exe"

IMPORTANT NOTE: in the "start in" box , it should specify the drive where your program is located. In my case it is .. C:/    but some people have their drives named differently. Make sure you get the name exactly correct in this box.

8.) o.k. , now you should have a working shortcut right where you want it, but you still have that ugly default icon. So we want to change the icon to something more appropriate. So , once again right click on the shortcut >properties> and click on the "change icon" button. Navigate to an icon you like and apply it. I chose the IconPackager icons from the "non-mainstream" pack by iconboy, but of course it's your call.

Well, that's it. This will work for any shortcut you want to create for your taskbar or start menu. You can even create a taskbar short cut to one of your hard drives by using this same procedure. The sky is the limit. Hope this helps you.     -- Ace --

OK, I get to the part to specify the path and when I click apply it says it's not valid. I'm positive of the location on my HDD. Maybe I'll try it again.

TIP: to make sure you get the path correct you can do this :

1.) Go directly to the program folder and find the IconPackager.exe

2.) Right-click and "send to" > "desktop create short-cut"

3.) once that short-cut is on your desktop, right-click > properties> then copy and paste that path into the pinned icons target box.

when you are finished with all of that, then you can delete allthose unnecessary shortcuts on your desktop screen.

o.k. , I had a little problem myself when I tried to reproduce it. first of all, make sure the quote marks are still there when you copy and paste (   "    )

secondly, make sure the only thing in the "start in" box is = C:/        or whatever the name of your hard drive is where this program is located.

you're very welcome copperhill, I just edited the tutorial above to clarify the importance of the "start in " location. Hope people will copy the tutorial to a text so that they can refer back to it when they want to create their own shortcuts. I have shortcuts to all my hard drives right down on my taskbar by using this technique.
