is there a way to get my Gciv2 on steam?

ok i bought Gciv2 a long time ago but impulse was kind of really stupid and in my case hindered me more then anything, now i see that you are on steam,id like to put my copy with my cd key on steam but i can't find anything about it...considering i can do it with all my old game that are sold in steam id like to know why i can't or maybe point out how i can do it.

right now i was playing with a cracked version but i do OWN it i know its wierd but i wanted to support the company and thats how i found out about Gciv2 a few year ago and like i said impulse was a pain to me and i did try their solution to put it on cd but it was really stupid and useless since it required still an impulse activation which is basicly DRM...aka what i though stardock wasnt supporting...so the cracked version was a bit less trouble for me

and i did get alots of friend into that game both WoW friend and rl one so it would be awesome for alots of people to know how to input the cd key from impulse to Steam and ive found no post for it sorry if i missed one

No. However Stardock is working on this in case you wish to download directly from them. Recently as you might know things were not properly registering. Here's a preview/dev journal on it https://forums.galciv2.com/413462

Gamestop aquired Impulse a while back and bought it from Stardock this just recently passed spring.

These topics might help you

Topic 1# (replies linked) I'd go with reply #9 and reply #50 and if you have the same problem as I did...

Then try reading this (reply #4 of Topic 2 I'm mentioning)

You're welcome and happy gaming, hope this works for you :)

wow this seem to be a huge mess wth happened to stardock?...but yeah anyway i was actually only thinking about implanting it on my steam to get the auto update and other such awesome feature and ease that Steam tend to do with all game

downloading from stardock isnt really a good thing from what i can see and offer nothing i couldnt get with my cracked version sadly..it sound more like a tedious change than anything good and since the game will be available on steam it would be dumb not to have it on steam instead so yeah help me input my serial on steam instead haha

thx alots for the suggestion webnavigator though but like i said i want all the good thing that make running game not tedious at all on steam and they tend to offer awesome service and support so it would be stupid to miss out on that and restart playing a game ive liked really much(although still not dethroning my precious MoO2 *wink* but still extremely close)

Stardock still offers support for these issues as previously evidenced and I'm sure Impulse / Gamestop would probably have these issues ironed over. Though many and even such as myself would almost most certainly prefer downloading directly from Stardock.

I think you may have misread my post because Impulse isn't owned nor operated by Stardock as far as I know. Though Stardock Central will be a simple updating/archiving/download manager. Since Stardock developed Galciv 2 and other games like Sins Of A Solar Empire wouldn't you say getting updates from them makes logical sense instead of playing a cracked game? If you bought it then yeah... when the updater comes I'd use it.

I'd like to be able to update from Steam too but I find it unlikely as has been pointed out that Steam uses it's bandwidth for it's purchases/consumer base and not old customers porting over. So Stardock's solution is to allow you to download from them once again. Typically most of the support you'll need for GC2 will come from Stardock anyway so it makes sense once their manager is out and able to do it.

I like the reliability of being able to discuss my own Galciv 2/Stardock purchases with Stardock because when companies get big (Gamestop) they tend to give less favorable service and or even forget you ever existed as someone who actually bought the game. Admittingly I've not had horrible experience with Gamestop myself asides from their cursed update to Impulse that messed with things (possibly).

Well Merry Christmas!

 PS: You're welcome :)

im pretty sure stardock used to own impulse...anyway im just asking for an answer and what you tell me so far is really vague

like i said i want it on steam for the convenience and also stopping using steam...downloading it from the website would just make it the same as downloading it from a torrent really...and you do get patch even on the cracked game which is awesome imo or else i wouldnt have played it for so long which like i said offer me all i need to play the game fully

the problem is really the service on steam i wouldnt have to deal with having to download each patch manually and i could log in my game from there instead of forgetting i have it installed and never play it until i just run a clean up and just delete it since i no longer ever play it anymore, valve said a really smart thing can't find the quote but basicly meant that piracy isnt a problem really and its just better service that will make hacked game trivial, which is exactly what steam offer to me so far and they went from a total crap to a really nice system that is convenient and efficient aka it give us alots less trouble...plus they kicked EA in the nuts which is always a HUGE + in my eye

and from what ive seen steam have supported what im asking for,for example supreme commander 1 and the exp which is the most recent i can come up with i think or maybe the full total war series?,but yeah it make for some very nice change and it show that at least the company actually still care about the game and its older fanbase which basicly MADE them.

so im pretty sure Galciv2 will be activatable or is activatable i just want to know how(mmm just saw that SoSe isnt switchable...im getting scared and really confused...i mean wasnt SoSe successful also?and they arent supporting xfer to steam?...i know Demigod and elemental were huge disaster but i really hope it didint turn stardock into huge jerk like EA or ubisoft..oh god plz reassure me /cry)

lets try to stop running in circle plz lol this is taking to long for such a simple question

merry Christmas also btw

edit:i have to say though that SoSe isnt great in my eye it was really a bad game and poor rts compared to whats on the market right now and back then and i never really got into it at all i just heard people on their forum claiming it was godlike.

I gave you a clear answer if you can not read then you'd be better off not to post.

*Stardock does not own Impulse, it was sold to Gamestop The Gamestop logo on startmenu shortcuts is a dead giveaway.

*The downloader that Stardock is coming out with is a simple plain updater as well

*No you can not get Galciv 2 on Steam

Also if clicking two buttons namely the program and the update button is too complicated for you then it's no wonder you get excellent replies but then totally ignore the points within them. It's one thing to post on here and ask for help from people's free time (including paid Stardock Employees) then another to be an un greatful whinger.  "lets try to stop running in circle plz lol this is taking to long for such a simple question" Perhaps instead of being so contentious you can actually read the replies that people bother to post.

Also writing a seven paragraph essay on your discomfort and then asking people not to talk in circles some odd paragraph before you finish your post is undoubtedly pretentious.

I'm certainly done wasting my time here.

GC2 Ultimate (as well as the latest releases of our other games) may be purchased on Steam. However, you cannot nor do we have any plans to support the transfer of older registrations to Steam; your registration will remain with GameStop and/or Stardock accordingly (depending on when it was purchased).

If your only concerns are updates and accessibility, the new SDC will support automatic updates, and Steam allows you to add non-Steam games to your games list so that the shortcut appears there.

there we go finally...also why can't we put our version on steam?its easily doable,it does require effort but there is so much people asking for it i can totally see it being favorable to you

also webnavigator plz dont post if you are just gonna act like a jerk in the end...you say i can't read but i said from the start stardock USED to own impulse...god...and you never gave me a clear answer till now all you did is say stardock offer support for these issue and blah blah blah thats not saying no they dont....i would have like not posting that much for the time it take to say no so i could ask WHY? exactly..its like i was talking to a dumb PR dude that doesnt want to make is product look bad /rolleye

anyway back on the main issue so yeah alots of old game went with enabling steam support for them and Galciv2 isnt that old compared to them so really just sending new key for us to enable it on steam would be the least you could do for people that bought and supported your game...i loved buying every xp pack even if i feel they didint add alots in Galciv2 to support you guys but this just look like selling impulse and you going cheap and going for steam when you never really said they offered the service you wanted for your customer just make it look like you lost to much money and you threw out your principle for money.

and i loved supporting you but ive seen to many company turn their back on their customer for pure profit and just end up making the same boring game over and over again or bad product that for some reason make them live their miserable life and doesnt evolve gaming at all...i mean indie title advanced gaming more in a year then big budget in 10 year thats just sad

i love stardock mainly because of Galciv2 and i really dont want to treat you like EA,ubisoft or paradox

think of the so many customer that want this to happen plz we bought your product to support you dont give up on us now

i didint think digital download would be a problem that fast...see with a cd you actually OWN the game now i feel like you can do w/e you want with the product and i have 0 say about it...if thats the way il be treated i might aswell not buy them and just get them from other source that still give me the same option...i can still put it on non-steam games you know...but it doesnt offer me what i want from it aka automatic update and support il all have to still all do this manually like i do with my cracked version...so whats the point?

PLZ reconsider this stardock i really want to keep supporting you

By transferring your license to Steam? I can understand those that want all their games to launch and be managed from the one client, but nothing has changed. Everyone was content to use impulse for their Stardock products and then use Steam for others.
Obviosuly, Gamestop does not have the gamer support that Steam has or (IMHO) Stardock has, but one can still use the Stardock client when its relaunched and the status quo will have been returned.

Ny transferring your licence to Steam, you would be doing the exact opposite of your last sentence, not supporting them.

I just don't get it. Drag the GC2 icon into steam to launch it from then and use SDC when launched to maintain your Stardock purchases.

SDC was a very minimal light program that was non intrusive, i'd expect something very much the same.

Geez, i dunno ID.
I already own 3 DL, 2 DA and 1 TA

I might purchase Demigod on steam though since Gamestop seemed to have killed my impulse account..
