Windowblinds 7 uninstall error help - RESOLVED!

I am having a uninstall issue with WB 7 on my PC. I have removed impulse and have used the store downloads. I ran into an issue only with wb7. I cannot remove it from my PC, I get " Could not Open Install. Log file." I have included a screen capture to show you my issue to see if anyone can give me a clue of what is wrong with my install.  Also here is my Stardock Support Ticket# QIS-357514

Install Impulse again and uninstall through Impulse. Then re-install using the Stardock store. This is what I had to do.

Okay will try that now. Thanks

It appears that you are using a 3rd party uninstall program. I get the same error message in my Ashampoo Uninstaller program if I don't opt to monitor the install of a program, ( which creates the install log). You can still uninstall the program manually either through the manual uninstall option of your Uninstaller or through the Windows Control Panel (Programs & Features) uninstall option.  -- Ace --

If he installed it using impulse, he has to uninstall it through Impluse, try Windows Control Panel (Programs & Features) uninstall option. as the program and features will tell him that it must be uninstalled using impulse. I know this fr4om experience

Okay so I installed Impusle Driven from Game Stop, and loged in using my Stardock Account and was able to uninstall WB7 from there and rebooted, than removed Impulse too and wen to the stardock store and dowloaded WB7 from there and I installed and reboot than went to windows add/remove and got the same message " Could Not Open Install. Log File." It seem that for me I cannot remove WB7 unless I have Impulse which Stardock doesnt support anymore? Em I realy stuck with this issue till when? So lets say I can to do a clean uninstall to them install an updated version of WB7, I will be dealing with this issue? I dont see a Uninstall link in my starmenu folder either. I install the apps with default settings from the installers, WB7 is the only one with this uninstall issue. I have googled and I have no clue why this is happening.

Do you have any other customization software installed? Have you installed the Gaia icons?

I only have Stardock Installed and WB7 is the only software with the issue. Icon Packager, Icon developer, Logon Studio, Tweak7 are all fine. All Icons, Skins are apply using WB and IP.

I had this same error back when I uninstalled WB6 shareware so I could install the paid version.

I ended up having to use Revo to remove WindowBlinds.

This was pre-Impulse, btw.

Since I've had no occasion to uninstall WB's again, I never saw the error again.

Well even running the uninstall from inside the folder in windowblinds won't work. I am running under admin too. scratching my head now :(

OKay, I found a work-around. I got it to uninstall in a clean way and reinstall. Yay!

Sure, cut/pasting the INSTALL.LOG file to another location like "desktop" than running the uninstall.exe from the wb7 folder and it will promt you for the INSTALL.LOG and just point to the file and the uninstall wizzard will read it and the uninstall starts normally.  Is a temp work around till I figure out the real reason why I have this issue.

If I were guessing I'd say that the permissions of the WB directory were set where WB is unable to access it.

What are teh permissions for that directory?

my account is set to admin rights. not sure what the folder is set to. but it could be well be the case. How would i go about checking it? checking the folder rights? or?

Right-click on the folder, properties, security tab?
(I'm on  a linux box right now or I'd post a screen shot.  :) )

okay I did check and it seems like deault settings. I could be wrong. I haven't messed with permissions. I did my virus scanner and my PC is clean, I did do the SFC /scannow and my files are okay. The only odd thing I found is that IE9 thinks that wb7.exe is not s trsusted installer and gave me a warning. What do you think?

Okay I am very unhappy with Stardock Support. I have finally recived a response back almost a week later just to say that since they haven't heard back from me my ticket has been marked closed? Really? I have checked my email's spam folder and this is the only email I have gotten from them. This is frustration, disappointing. How can I believe in their products if they offer extremely poor support to back them up.

RoodVargas .... comments #11, 13, and 15 on this thread are directly from Stardock Support.

If they haven't heard back from you then it's possible the ether has swallowed up an email somewhere.  Support was [recently] having troubles with lost communications.  I'd suggest if your issue is as yet unresolved you open a new ticket.

Sorry, been busy work and traveling. I was sent a link from stardock with an app to uninstall it and it worked. I am fixed now. Set this thread to solved
