Skin Primer 2002 (rough draft)

Skin Primer 2002 (rough draft)

https://www.stardock.com/stardock/articles/skinprimer/skinprimer2002.html

A couple of years ago I wrote a skin primer to help pitch Wired magazine to do an article on the skin community. It was kind of shabby and quickly done up. It's pretty out of date now.

This evening (after Survivor and the President's press conference) I went and rewrote it from scratch. Obviously I'm not the ideal person to write a skin primer since I work for Stardock. But hopefully the information contained will be viewed as objective and useful to novices.

We're going to have a lot of new users coming as XP rolls out and it would be good to have something they can refer to.

This is just the rough draft that I whipped up in the last hour and a half or so. I haven't put in screenshots yet since that'll take more time. Will work on that tomorrow evening (since I'm doing this in my spare time).

Anyway, let me know what you think. Any suggested changes and such.

Haven't read the article yet...but a quickie....before there was Quake...there was Wolfenstone 3D....and it was hacked to provide alternate graphics...sort of 'skinning'...

Don't forget Calmira.....a Shell/skin for Windows 3x...

Tek has shied away form doing "reviews" of any kind, for the most part.
With so many sites in such a small niche, any "review" we might do of a site could only be one reviewers "opinon" which, for hte life of me, i have to believe, would not be positive, nor responsible.
Tek has, in it's first year, had interviews with almost eveyrone runnign a "big league" skin site...and anyone we have missed, we are working on.

(btw, taka is developing a yearly recap of tek, to be published in Japan, in the Japanese language...first interview = Frogboy)

man, it is so nice ot sit back and watch crae eat up soemone else for a change......hehehehhe

i like tek. good site. skinning has a small town feel. i read fb's thing last night and checked out the sites. lotsofskins is down. customize gave me a wierd symbol and wulnd't let me on. skinbase worked fine. and da had some guy trashing fb for not including his stuff in the fb's article.

maybe tek could do n article on the difficulties of online diplomacy. the more active in the community you guys get the more you get trashed by the wannabes.
