Slow Redraw & Various Artifacts

I've had Fences (free) v1.01.143 installed for many months with no issues.  It recently started having many display issues.

  1. The icons display, but the fences around them are often not visible.
  2. When I grab the invisible title bar of a fence over non-fenced icons, the redraw is painfully slow.  Each "frame" of the icons moving takes about two seconds during which the icons all turn white.
  3. When I hide the icons, I can still see silhouettes (in white) of all of the icons briefly when I click on the desktop.
  4. Overall, fences functions as it always had, but it is just extremely slow with these artifacts.

I've recently installed LabVIEW, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, and Windows Updates.  I did have virtual desktop software installed briefly, but uninstalled.  However, I've made so many changes recently, it's difficult to know exactly which initiated this behavior.

To correct the problem, I have tried the following:

  • Uninstalled any program that I would thing might affect the display.
  • Uninstalled my display driver (which was already the latest version), rebooted, and reinstalled.
  • Uninstalled fences, rebooted, and reinstalled.
  • Disabled as many of the startup programs as I could.

Nothing seemed to work.

Does fences have any known conflicts with any other programs that would cause behavior like this?

sometimes it helps to clean old registry keys before installing again but i dont think thats the problem here if you say the display is behaving in that kind. Maybee it got whitelisted by McAfee VirusScan Enterprise and deleted parts but then again those should have been restored on the reinstallation of fences.

intermittently when you click on windows toolbar, fence, icon, desktop some fenses will improperly redraw their icons sometimes on top of each other.

when it happens sometimes icons fall of of affected fences onto the desktop. most times the buttom part of the fence is dawn with icons that are out of view placed on top of each other.

i have about dozen fences and a large number of icons, most times nothing happens and my system is very fast, close to 7.5/7.9 in microsoft windows expericence index. and my graphics are 7.8/7.9! so it don't get much better.

but sometimes when you hold down the mouse it

Perhaps the antivirus software is interfering with Fences. Try adding an exception to or temporarily disabling your McAfee antivirus to see if it makes a difference.
