Impulse don't just the new end subscription

Well everything's said in title: i renewed a few days ago (wonder why in fact ... ) my Object Desktop & Wincustomize subscriptions (ending 09/05 & 09/23) & that ugly & silly Impulse software (yep i always considered it as a disaster for users who just don't care of games  >:( ) still don't show the new ending dates. 8C

 

What's going on with this ??

Apart of that i was not able to renew through Impulse ==> it brings be to a wrong web page or something which did'nt work ( ) and i already post a new thread about that problem through Impulse, but can't see it over there ( ??? ) 

 

Anyone to tell news about these fine things ??

My current issue with using the Accounts Download page is that it only has a small fraction of the Object Desktop products that I've purchased with my subscription.  CursorXP(?!), Cursor FX, Fences and a selection of MyColors desktops which I have never had any interest in.  To compound matters, I have a number of Premium Suites available to download - but guess what?  I don't have Theme Manager installed and am unable to download and install it!

 

Why does not the Account Download page list all the wonderful little programs that I've paid for when I renewed my Object Desktop subscription?

 

I love Stardocks products and business philosophy over the years and I've been a subscriber for at least 8 years.  This is disappointing and not up to their normal high standards of customer service.

One other note of total irrelevance, I just compared my Member No. with those of many posters - and while I'm not in the original core I have been around for a few years.

Well, my new Win7 x64 rig has arrived, to replace my tired old Dell Vostro N/B.  My subscription is good through January.  2 questions, just to be sure:

Will I be able to install Impulse on the new rig and have it recognize my sub and allow me to install my desktop apps?

If indeed so, will 'D/L & Archive' create restorable archives (restorable by Impulse, that is, once the sub expires)?

Theme Manager should be in the list to download.  If it's not, then just contact support@stardock.com and explain in detail what's going on.  They will take care of it for you.

I'm not sure of all the products you say is missing, but there are many applications that have been discontinued and aren't listed.  Again, contact support and see what they can do.

Until your sub is renewed, it should work, but I still recommend moving away from it for software at least.

I'll let zubaz take the last question, as I'm not 100% sure.

The answer is "maybe".  Because the databases have split, while they should reconcile, they do not always.

My advice is to go to https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products and download all the installers.  Those can be burned to CD, or USB,  or a cloud service, or whatever and will work.  If you are missing an specific app, be sure to search for it (like Theme Manager) as the order that products are in can be . . unique.

If products are missing it may be because of a database glitch or because you had products listed under another account.  Some applications that just don't work anymore have been removed . . but those would be super-rare.  (I got a call today for someone who bought Blog Navigator YEARS ago, downloaded it, and wasn't able to activate it. We were able to reactivate it and presumably the user was happy with it.  I dunno.

Lastly, email support if you have a concern.  We're happy to help (and, now that we're not dealing with so many Gamestop/Stardock split issues, we are helping people even faster).

Got an email from Stardock two days ago with a limited time offer in it .

My  current subscription to the Object Desktop Network will be expiring on Saturday, November 05, 2011.

Will i be able to use the limited time offer if i want to renew my subscription on the 4th of November ?

Want to thank all here for answering this question.  My sub ran out but have not been able to renew via impulse and the web site is confusing as all get out.  I have decided to not renew until I see some positive and productive work on the issues mentioned in this thread.  It seems like the entire object desktop line is slowly getting phased out and forgotten, but they will take your money if you want.  The main issue is the lack of notification Stardock has given us customers about selling Impulse and our info, I for one have never and will never buy any game through GameStop even is I was a gamer.  Sure I think some of the Stardock programs are great but am not going to throw my hard earned money on a dead horse and will start looking else where for replacements.

We think that ODNT still has value for folks that like doing what it does.

One of the great things about the subscription is that *can* let it lapse and then renew at that price.  Renew or don't, we'll be around when you change your mind.

As far as the Impulse sale goes; what Stardock did pre-sale couldn't have been announced . . and after-wards it was all over the forums and in the news. The fact that existing customers were not affected (they could still use Impulse to get their applications) did not warrant any possibly confusing communications.

Zubaz, your quick reply is very positive and am looking forward to the upcoming downloader.  As for the Impulse issue, it is just weird that when trying to renew through it, it just sends you to a empty cart with error messages.  It would be nice if it sent you to a page notifying uses of the change and a link to the new order process.  I understand this is now out of your hands but users like me will shy away from any program that shows an error like this with no helpful info.  Not everyone will go to this depth to search out the answers.  I do think these programs are invaluable and rely on them daily and will renew when the new downloader comes out.

Hi All

I have read most of this thread but not all of it.

 

I am so confused with this Impulse thing which has now changed to Gamestop, but i cannot recall installing it , it just changed from Impulse to Gamestop when i wasn't looking at my monitor.

Now here's what really annoying me.

I renewed my Object Desktop reregistration earlier this year, from what i can gather it was done on the 5 of August 2011 for another 12months.

I had all my registration keys sent to me but when i go to update the reg key to the latest i get an error saying invalid key even though it says the key is valid till "Sunday, August 05, 2012" in the email.

I would like to use some of the software that i have paid for but it seem i cannot because of the invalid key error.

I found the download page for the software. Can i now remove Gamestop (which takes forever to start up) and then just download what programs i need ?

You can indeed download all your software from the MyAccount page.

Once you renewed in August, which was after the sale of Impulse to GameStop, Impulse became unusable for SD desktop application management.  You may leave it on your system if you wish and if you created archives of your apps - you will still be able to restore those archived apps using Impulse in the unlikely event you ever need to, but you'll only be able to restore those on the OS on which they were created.  If it were me, I'd only keep Impulse installed if you plan to use it for Gamestop purposes.

Odds are you'll never need to restore prior versions of anything, so download all the installers from the MyAccount page & back them up.  To avoid any potential glitches, I'd uninstall all the current software using Impulse* and then run CCleaner (or similar) to clean up any remnants.  Be sure to unload WindowBlinds & any of the other running SD apps before you uninstall.

Once your system is clean again, you can run the new installers you downloaded.  You'll be prompted for your current registration key via an Activation dialog when you first run any of the newly installed apps.

I know it sounds like a lot of trouble, but it's probably best to get things 'clean' for the future.

Download them from the download page and use the reg key that shows on that page (I'm not sure that it will be the same as the Impulse key was).  It should work.  You do not register any Stardock Object Desktop (or CursorFX or ObjectDock etc) through Impulse anymore.

If the keys don't work, perhaps there is some other issue such as multiple or old email addresses?  (This can also occur if PayPal was used).

While you're on that page, save it as a "text file" or a "web page", save it to a relatively secure folder, and you now have a current list of all your reg codes.

I'd also suggest downloading and copying off to backup all of the software from the new page.

As far as uninstalling Impulse, I've left it out there.  I'm unclear about it, I've seen that it's ok to uninstall it but it also seems that to do the Deskscapes update the prior version of Deskscapes needed to be uninstalled - which needed to be done through Impulse.  The thought of leaving it out there doesn't bother me as much as the thought of having to re-install it for some reason.

I'm having the same problem. I'm waiting on a reply to a ticket I've submitted but it's taking a while - I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of a solution.

I've downloaded the programs from Stardock site but my OD subscription serial # doesn't work with most of them. Some installed and ran w/o any request for serial #'s (deskscapes, TweakVista) others open with the activation screen and then won't accept the serial #. One (F/X 4) tells me that the serial number I have (the one listed on the product page) is too short. Overall, having to download everything seperately is a pain and I now have more than one OD folder in my start menu.

I delayed resubscribing for a while this time b/c there didn't seem to be anything new worth the price but I finally did it when I got a reduced subscription deal - I'm beginning to regret it now though. I've been an OD subscriber on and off (mostly on) for many years and a Stardock customer from their OS/2 days. The products don't seem to develop much over the years and this is is a much harder process than it's been in the past both in terms of implementation / installation and in terms of service support.

I replied to your ticket.  Your serial number was one of the first style, which is no longer used, hence the error.  You should be all set now.
