many issues

I try to download the trial to give it a try, but the download from cnet or what ever that place is that stardock sends you to to download it, is broken. I have waited a week but it is still not working.  Rather ridiculous a company would outsource the download to cnet rather than letting someone download it straight from there own site. Cheap if you ask me.   I mean what kind of company sells a product that one can not download from there site.... LOL  It has been 1 week & 5 days & can not get the trial download any where.  LOL LOL LOL. It became obvious StarDock is LOOOWW end company very quickly. Have you seen the forum ?  with all the known issues ? LOL Soooooo not worth the money.

Winstep Extreme on the other hand let me download the trial straight from there site with no issues at all. I have been using it for 1 week & have had 0 issues. Granted it cost a little more, but as far as I can see, well worth it. No I'm not trying to promote Winstep, I don't need to, there obviously a much better company.  I know most of you loyal StarDock users will not agree, but there forums are WAAAAY less full of unhappy customer complaints.

Moral of the story, sometimes it pays to pay a little bit extra for the "Pro" item, rather than the low end StarDock who can not even supply a Trial download from there own site. Which in turn made you lose a (potential) loyal customer.

I am not a bitter person in any way shape or form, I normally do not rant in forums either, but this REALLY annoyed me. Every time I tried to contact cnet they told me to contact StarDock, LOL & I obviously could not get in contact with StarDock cause they would not reply. I was even VERY polite & patient with them. In no way was I rude as I am being now. And I'm not even meaning to be rude, its just coming out that way.

Winstep Extreme is definitely the way to go. I filled out an e-mail to them about a broken link for there trial download on another site that was not even there site, they replied the very next day letting me know they contacted the site & that it was fixed, AND gave me the link to there own site so that I may download it directly from them. Out of curiosity I check that site that had the broken link next day & by golly it was fixed. StarDock does not give 2 cents to care whether someone can get there product or not.

Anyway, I apologize for the ranting, and maybe for the rudeness a little bit. But I have wasted enough of my time on there products & broken links & BAD customer support.  Good Day !

If you say so.

Works for me... wherever.

Winstep has issues as well. You might check the Forums there as well.

I'm sure. If you have no control over the tone of your writing, perhaps you should gain a measure of equanimity before doing so? Just a thought.

Anyway, I apologize for the ranting, and maybe for the rudeness a little bit.

Your apology is not sincere, so why waste space on the server?

Also, in our language (American English), we differentiate between there, their and they're. We also do not start sentences with conjunctions: There are colons and semi-colons for that very reason.  :typo:

It might also interest you to learn that the owner/developer of Winstep is a member here (number 23, if memory serves), and maintains cordial connections with Stardock. I don't believe he shares your erudite opinions.

Many of us love the Winstep/ODNT combination as they work so well together. You have judged Stardock's product without even using it. Very fair of you.

No matter, Zandur. You wouldn't have lasted very long here. We're a bit more patient than you seem to be.

Winstep also redirects to Cnet's Download.com, and probably for the same reason Stardock does: not because we're cheap or we're trying to save bandwidth usage, but because Download.com is essentially the only download site that is still visited by millions of users. By focusing and re-directing to Download.com, Winstep and Stardock applications climb up to the top places on their 'most popular' charts, and thus become more visible to people who might not otherwise know about them. This is common practice and done in full agreement with Cnet.

As Doc said, even Winstep applications have issues: all complex software does. Given enough code complexity, even something simple as fixing a bug 'here' sometimes breaks something else 'there', which was previously working fine. Some issues also have nothing to do with bugs in the applications themselves (and therefore can't be fixed by us, only worked around) but are the result of weird interactions with 3rd party utilities or shell extensions (some obscure, others not so obscure) which like to inject code into the process space of other applications (therefore, even though it's THEIR buggy code, it's OUR application that their buggy code crashes, so the user won't know any better, lol).

This said, Winstep *currently* has a faster release cycle than Stardock and is therefore able to fix reported problems faster. On the other hand, product portfolio is much smaller than Stardock's, so that kind of helps. :)

That'll be me.  Jorge's isn't '23' he's 261...;)

Anyway, Zandur, thankyou for your input, though it's based on a very narrow [singular] observation.  This is not a 'Support' topic so it is closed.

Jorge, thanks for the explanations.

Jafo... sorry... remembered 23, just didn't tie it to you.

Number 261 isn't too shabby either.
