Units are way too fragile these days. If two comparable melee units touch each other, they simply both explode into a pile of gore. Armor is almost pointless, since the differential between attack power and defense power is usually way greater than hit points. It makes archery way too powerful, and war incredibly destructive.

I don't mind the whole "incredibly destructive" part, but i have to admit the first thing I do is invest in archers since on almost any map against almost any enemy they're guaranteed at least a 4:1 kill ratio (compounding with additional units; 12 companies of archers cannot be defeated by any other melee units in my experience).
