So how will we get our FREE copy?

So how will we get our FREE copy?

For those of us getting the FE expansion free how will we receive that? Will we get some key code in our email? Will it just popup on our GAMES list here? How?

Boxes are a waste of natural resoures, to repeat a point already being made, but one I definitely agree with.

Not to mention that boxes cost to design, manufacture and deliver.  Some time ago, there was a huge argument where one consumer made a stink with Stardock that they were "Promised" a box set on an expansion that was download only.  It went back and forth and the user provided a link to a picture and stated that he/she had a place on his/her shelf all ready for the box.  I think it was Frogboy who came back at the consumer, very nicely I might add, stating that the box never physically existed and that the expansion was only ever supposed to be download only.  And that he was very sorry that the consumer was disapointed, but that no physical box existed for Stardock to send.  He stood firm and I commend him for doing it.

As far as entitlement, yes, Demanding a box and physical copy of FE is totally out of line.  The fact that Stardock is going the (extreme) extra mile to provide copies for free (in whatever form) is HUGE.  And very much appreciated.

I have played games that were significantly worse out of the box where the manufacturer said "Oh well.  We got your money so tough".  One game i purchased had a reputation for eating hard drives yet the game manufacturer did nothing.  And is still in business today.  Another company released a game that would not boot from the disk on 100% of the released copies and required several (day 1) patches just to get running.  The state of running was horrible as well, but that didn't bother them.  Nothing was offered in compensation.  And if you have ever played the "Updated" Pool of radiance, nuff said.  I consider Elemental at launch to be WORLDS better.  and the fact that it has been brought up to playability even more so.

The excellent folks at StarDock have gone a LONG way to make good on the game as is.  If that isn't enough for any consumer then they must live very disapointed lives because just offering the downloadable is about 3 steps beyond anything I see as reasonable.  But it doesn't surprise me with this company.

Not only that, but offering TWO games for free (for those who bought WoM early enough). Just one is amazing in itself, but TWO extra games?

But some of us don't have superb internet, which is why I was saying that I wanted a physical copy of the game. I use satellite internet and I am limited to 300MB per day download, they're 5 of us sharing it and that dwindles down quickly. The only time I could possibly download it is between 2 and 7 AM and then it is only getting 100 - 150 kbs download speed. So, a physical copy for some people are better. You are not thinking of both sides in this.

IIRC - Fallen Enchantress is a digital only game, they are not making any physical copies at all.   It will be released via digital distribution only.    I would guess that you could probably get stardock to send you a dvd with an archived copy if you talked with someone at support for some minimal fee.   I would imagine that someone in the community would do it as well, if Stardock gave the ok.

This is a hugely helpful post. I would like to thank you very much. I would gladly pay a couple dollars shipping if the game is well worth it.

As stated above you may want to contact them directly shortly after launch and see what they can do.  They might be able send you an executable burned on to a generic DVD (possibly at cost).  Or they may ask you for postage costs. But I think a box and manuel is out of the question.

I didn't care about a box, I just wanted a jewel case and a disc. Like the 10 dollar games at walmart, but it doesn't even have to have a paper slip. I can download a pdf manual.

Emperor_Nero,

NP.  I'm sure Stardock will work with you to get the game.  If they can't for some reason, I am positive that the community can help you out.

As long as GameStop keeps supporting it, Impulse is supposedly able to download and archive a game to removable media so you can do the heavy download at a friend's, a net cafe, or something like that, and only use your home bandwidth to activate and update the game. anywhere.impulsedriven.com is working at the moment, although I've never tried out more than signing in. It lists all five Stardock game titles I have licensed, so FE should be up there for you when it is released.

I've used it. You can use it to pull down the game, burn that to a DVD. Then you just need to log in with Impulse to install from the DVD and update. In this situation, getting someone else with a better connection to do that would be the way to go.
