Anyone else getting the Classic Startbar revert?

Anyone else getting the Classic Startbar revert?

Tired of this.

Hello again. After finally getting a confirmation of activation and the updated version of 7.2, every skin I have tried including the default packaged skins will revert the start bar to Classic Windows 98. The only way I have found to get it to change is to kill wbvista.exe and change it via personalize. I'm very sick of this and bought the program some time ago now and have been working for days just to get it to work. I appreciate the support on the forums and have gotten quick replies (I havn't gotten a single ticket reply after all of this time from my previous problem..) Anyhow. If anyone else is getting this error and has found a solution, please let me know. I also heard disabling Nview could fix this, and have done that.

Here is the information

Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 5.5
Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 6.8

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 7.2 (build 297 - Windows 7 Edition) - 64 bit OS

Wbload.dll 2010/06/07 15:59:25

And here is a picture. Notice how it will skin other things occasionally, but not the start bar.

Tune Up Utilities might be the problem if you have it, Impatient 133.

Sadly, I do not have Tuneup Utilities.

I think tomorrow when I have the chance I'm going to install it on my laptop and see if it works on that.

AHh Impatient133, I was hoping that I could give good news today.  Found out how to stop TU U Sytler functions.  I do hope you find the solution to this.  That looks dog ugly that Classic/white stuff.

I will have to reinstall WB 7 a third time, and try it again.  Wish me luck. I wonder if I will be able to reinstall ut a third time?  I hope there isn't too short of the number of installs I can have.  I dread to got through the black hole again.

Have better Days Impatient133!

I do not, no. Currently I am using no customization or improvement -'tuneup' programs, aside from basic Aero Windows 7 features.

I greatly appreciate everybody's patience and am amazed that it seems only I have a problem with this.

I suggest the nuclear approach......

go to THIS page and download the ODNT Component Zapper. It can nuke all the Stardock software on your system. Then....

reboot after running the zapper

prior to installing Windowblinds again disable anti-virus/firewall

install windowblinds

reboot

run windowblinds (cross fingers)

I have already run Zapper earlier as one of the first steps and did a complete clean install of it after removing AVG. Rebooting after each step of the process, similar to how you describe. >.>..

Update, It does not skin other menus, all it skins is the Windowblinds program itself.

Man, this is weird...... o_O

If you don't mind, could you take a screen shot of the services running in Task Manager and post it in a reply.

Also if you can...what other programs are you running? Maybe there's conflict somewhere along the line.

Sure.. There are quite a few services, but here they are.

Wheew, that was a bit. They overlap a couple of services each time. (I've had this computer for quite some time, and have a hefty collection of stuff.)

I see punkbuster......it doesn't like Windowblinds....thinks it's a cheat.

I also see VMware.....are you running windowblinds in a Virtual Machine?

Tunngle, team viewer & Switchboard are others that "I" would look at only because I've not used them before.

Let me rephrase...can you 'list' what other programs you have.  I read reply one Jafo...perhaps from the list above the culprit can be narrowed down.

Notice, those are services, not processes. I'll attempt to force stop Punkbuster and see if I can get a result. Also already tried stopping 'Themes' to see if it would result in anything. It did not. I am not running Windowblinds in a VM. I used to use it for various reasons, but they were all temporary. Tuungle is a improved version of Hamachi, TeamViewer is a remote assistant program, and Switchboard service (While related to Adobe, something I don't use to much anymore aside from Flash) is disabled.

:Edit, I tested no punkbuster with no avail. Not sure if I posted it earlier, but I have run my computer after disabling pretty much everything via Msconfig that isn't integrated into windows itself with no Antivirus installed, and no luck. A weird problem. ><

If you all recall, I was having similar problems a few months ago. I found the problem to be in the Windows 7 visual settings. I went to ...Computer>Properties>Advanced System Settings>Performance>Settings.......Then I UNchecked "Let Windows decide what is best for my computer"  and put a CHECK in the box "Adjust for best appearance" and BINGO !  Problem solved.  On another note, I too at one time had TuneUp Utilities installed on my OS along with WB. It also was creating problems in my visual effects as well. The problem with TU Utilities is that it is such an invasive program it's hard to get rid of all the left over remanents after uninstall. Finally I got so frustrated that I decided to just do a complete Disk reformat and reinstall of the OS. Problem SOLVED again ! Now I stay away from that particular utility.      --- ACE ----

I was really hoping this would work. Changed to best performance, applied, loaded up WB, same thing.

The only way I have found to get it to change is to kill wbvista.exe and change it via personalize.

I almost hate to put this out here because it could be completely stupid, but it almost seems like WB may not be running with adequate privileges somehow.  Is that possible (anybody)?

I have ran it as an administrator, but I've also gone in and attempted to make everything run as an administrator under each files properties

Update: I have installed it on my laptop and it has run flawlessly. Something I noticed. When it is activating a new skin, the skin generally has a loading bar of some sort pop up in the center while it activates. But not on my computer, only on my laptop.

I am working on this same issue.  I have Punkbuster and the game I play are the Call of Duty's.  If I nix that, I don't think I can play multi player.  Since I haven't I hope that this works...I have a work up for the ticket I have, so I won't to try stuff untill the ticket is answered. Thanks all who are looking at this, BTW.  I have done lost of tries to work this already and my brain is shot (which doesn't take much!).  :S   X|
