Trade pacts, what do they do?

no, i dont mean the tec-only envoy induced thing, i mean the basic trade pacts everyone gets with all thier allies at the start of the game.

 

In fact, it does seem that they do do something...  in a 5v5 with locked teams, you will find your trade ports will be earning more money than in a 1v1, if your allies have trade ports, and i feel that getting at least one trade port in a 5v5 is going to be very very benificial to the rest of your allies on your team, even if you are not in an econ slot. 

I do not quite understand the game mechanics behind all of this, I am just pointing out the mechanic's existance.

however, trade ships are also stupid dumb retarted, and will kill themselves if you are not careful... so yes, your trade ships are earning more money, but your trade ships are also killing themselves, which also hurts your income.

just thought id start a discussion on this.

Basically it means A. Whomever you have the trade pact with will no longer be able to attack your trade ships, regardless of having a ceasefire or not and B. Your trade ships will visit their ports and can be used for determining your longest trade route. Also there is also a trade relations modifier that increases by 0.01 every time a trade ship arrives at another player's port. I don't think it adds any other bonus to trade income.

You're right about the trade ships killing themselves if there is hostile territory between you and the player you have a trade pact with, but for adjacent players its probably fine.

It adds your trade chains together.

 

So if you have a chain of 4 and your only ally with trade ports has a chain of 3 you both have an effective chain of 7. (in a locked team game)

Also I think what you're talking about is call a Trade Agreement.

Annitar seems to think that every ally with a trade port and a trade pact give each of your trade ports 1 extra trade ship.
