Disable Logging Please - Kills Screensaver On Clean Up

Hey,

Please disable the logging feature in Fences or at least make the logging a simple command line option please.

Every time it cleans the log it causes the screen saver to turn off which also means it won't allow my computer to sleep correctly.

A bit annoying.

Thanks,

Will

Do you by any chance have some kind of active bluetooth connection going?
I had that exact problem when I had a bluetooth USB 'dongle' plugged in. Kept "wake up" the machine all the time.
Poor thing got really cranky. ;)

And yes, I do have Fences installed but without the bluetooth it has never woken up by it self - and I've never heard about Fences logging anything.

Fences won't keep your computer awake.

Coffee might, though...;)

My computer is on 24/7 .... but the screen isn't..... so Fences is not affecting 'sleep'.

Hi,

Thanks for your comments guys.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1. No bluetooth.

Fences logs God knows what. Every hour it runs "fences.exe /trimlog" to clean the log.

When this runs my screen saver cuts off or my computer awakes from sleep.

Not imagining it, Process Explorer shows that it just ran every time the screen saver gets kicked off.

And it's like clock work. Happens every single time on the hour when it cleans the log. Every time.

So again, any chance we could please get a build with no logging?

Thanks again,

Will

Just for testers: Try turning off the screensaver. (Who uses screensavers anyway?!)
And see if the machine still wakes up.

Though.... does sound a bit odd that the screensaver is 'active' when the machines 'sleeping'. All my monitors turns off completely when in sleep mode.

Yes still wakes up with screen saver off.

And I used the word "or" in there.

Meaning this happens if the screen saver is running OR if it is sleeping. Like you said, it does NOT do both at the same time.

I'd like to give this post a bump. I would like to turn of the Fences 2.0 logging as well. It seems weird that they essentially leave the application running in debug mode. This should be a preference that can be turned off.

My PC Runs slow and using Process Monitor I could see that my machine was performing seeks all over the hard drive. So if I do a file copy that takes 5 minutes, the process is contending with Fences which performs logging every second.

Stardock, quit killing my hard drive, add a preference to turn off logging. Maybe, what you can do is turn on logging if a crash in fences is detected. There is no reason for the product to be running in debug mode all the time, which is what it is doing with the logging.

Cheers.

I think these ie privacy warnings I'm seeing come up and vanish from Fences may have something to do with it.

Its beyond me why Fences is generating up to 7 privacy warnings which then vanish about as quickly as they appeared. They have to do with cookies being made .. I've no idea why a desktop organization program is futzing around with cookies or making these communications on a regular basis but, I don't think I like this behavior.  It may be these are showing up to me because of my privacy settings and less stringent settings would not show any activity to the user.  However, I can see how this would disrupt a screensaver or even a sleeping system if its having to wake up even a little to process these behaviors.

Anyone else seeing this going on?  I don't get quite as fired up about it now as I did originally except I feel that I'm maybe being spied upon and information's being placed in ie-style cookies  .. *shrug*
