Laptop locks on boot

I posted this in the general disscussion in a thread I didn't start because the original poster sounded like they were having a similar problem. The post got a little out of control before I got there and I think that is why I haven't got much of a response.

I installed Bootskin.exe 1.3 on my laptop running XP Pro unfortuneately when I choose a bootskin and then reboot the computer shows the new skin and then hangs. Usually the screen appears black except for the progress bar still being visible. If force a power down and then reboot I can get to safe mode. I bootskin and choose the defualt windows skin and then reboot. Windows boots no problems. I have tried several skins including all of the ones that come with Bootskin with the same results.

When I search the message board in the help section it seems other people may have had similar problems. At least it sounds like they are describing the same problem to me.

Open to suggestions

(I have not installed any other bootskin like program. I have not hacked the kernel. I do love the way this program works on my desktop.)

Any number of other people have the same problem ...my suggestion is you don't use it until the next update.

For what it's worth, most report the Bootskin coming up and then going off with nothing but the default progress bar showing on a black screen (and the machine locks up). Somewhere the default and bootskin are colliding...just need to find out where/why.

I appreciate the response I will definitely be interested in trying the next update. I keep watching for it.

Like I said I really like the program.

BTW - there's a post on the bootskin newsgroup saying 1.04 is expected this week with (hopefully) a fix for the hibenation issue (which I've had) and possibly this sort of problem too...so, check the web site later in the week

Yea, I had the last version of Bookskin and I never had a problem with my laptop, but when I used the new version which I had up get after my laptop had to be serviced and reformated. I get teh same lockup. I do hope the new version address our mutual problem here. I have enjoyed using Bootskin and Windowblinds for sometime.
