THOUGHTS:

HI everyone.. Thought i should post my victory over a cruel Ai on the MAP: GAIN RESCENT
Me:adevent NewPLayer lol: didn't bother make a profile
Cruel Ai:Vasari

I'm a noob as such.. cos i have only ever won 1 game online after having only a couple of weeks experience playing the ai. Please watch the recording because I HAVE READ TIPS IN THESE FORUMS and i have tried to do the following:

  • Try to fully make use of Repair Platforms , Build Structures CLOSELY TOGETHER within repair platforms radius . Use them as a fall back for fleets needing repairing
  • Depend on fleets
  • Avoid Researching unecessary Tech
  • Boaster military in the beginning for multiple fronts.
  • Have multiple fleets. Constantly press and flank the ai
  • Main fleet consists of 1 or caps while other fleets not so much plus a mixture of flak, long range , heavv and light frigates.
  • Make use of culture to reduce ai income

Lessons learnt

  • Repair Platforms Rock. Don't build 1 but reach 3 or more overtime.. 3 is a crowd(for the enemy)
  • 2 Military labs come first over all others for advent. Get those repair platforms before illuminators!
  • Halcyon is an advent main-- all others suck- long range powerhouse with bombers, and push ability to deter other craft. Halcyon is the carrier of choice.
  • Guardians with Repulsion do there jobs -nothing else matters.
  • Advent star bases aren't exactly offensive structures lol. Though when surrounded by repair platforms there invisible to Ai attacks.
  • The Ai was but an Ai, A human player would have countered more effectively and made me suffer.  In that case I doubt the game would have lasted at an hour let alone 45 min if he knew what he was doing.
  • Include 1 or 2 scouts in fleets to detect mines!!!!

Need tips and advice to improve my game.

wouldn't you need quite a plethora of culture stations to drop the cruel ai's income to an extent that would make a substantial difference

I had nothing to loose. if it didnt cripple hes income it eventually would start loosing allegiance plus if the ai didnt spend on culture structures and upgrades it would loose to Advent culture. When i had Planet Ikeda fortified i knew i won: upgraded starbase with culture upgrades and temples as-well surrounded by repair platforms. Same configuration at Clusious while pressing hes front lines with military.

>Depend on fleets

If you're playing against the AI, especially the tougher ones (like Cruel), sometimes it's a good idea to keep your fleet as small as possible to avoid upkeep costs. I've found that against any number of Unfairs, it's a relatively simple matter to keep your original fleet size and only have a capital, a few repair cruisers, and a couple heavy cruisers. The AI is very prone to suiciding its units on your starbases: exploiting this can almost always guarantee you a win. Against the AI, if you can find a choke point and set up a starbase, repair platforms, and repair cruisers, there's very little you'll ever need to worry about, except possibly for masses of antistructure cruisers.

>Boaster military in the beginning for multiple fronts.

For the starbase-based strategy, this would be worthwhile mostly against neutral targets.

>Have multiple fleets. Constantly press and flank the ai

Or just sit back and let a starbase do the work for you, while you research/fortify/get income to your heart's content.

>Make use of culture to reduce ai income

Not generally a good idea. Trying to hurt and overthrow planets through culture can easily be thwarted by the defender building one (at most two) culture centers in that gravity well. Unless the AI happens to max out the planet's logistics and doesn't build any culture centers, offensive culture is almost certainly going to cost more than it will benefit.

My advice: build a single culture center on each of your front-line(s) to prevent your own planets from being overwhelmed, and you'll probably not have to worry about it again.

Meh, it's not that all the others suck, it's that very little can compare to the Halcyon's strikecraft power, especially in the early game.

>Include 1 or 2 scouts in fleets to detect mines!!!!

Often the AI will fill up many of their gravity wells with mines until the cap. To quickly sweep mines, send in 3 or 4 scouts and some flak. Scouts will reveal mines, flak (with a 360 degree firing range) will destroy them.
