Classic Games

I just logged on to #stardock this morning too find the welcome message was reminiscing about the game of Zork. So PJ Powell and I played a litle bit of our own version online. But it got me wondering if I can still find the old Zork games. So I set out on a quest to search the Internet. Sure enough I found a site with the games (on my second try) so I thought I would share it with all of you!

Have some fun! Go play Zork!

I often find the trouble with old games is that they're not as good as I remember them being. I love to sit around and complain that they don't make games like they used to as much as the next person. There was one game in particular that I used to love, so about 5 years ago, I went out and found an old Sinclair Spectrum to play it on, found the game, and to my surprise, when I loaded it up, it was not very good at all. Mind you, Elite, now that was a game

But Zork is a complete text game. Almost like reading a book as to where you get to use your imaginization to place yourself in the Great Underground Empire as you see it!

I played it for a few minutes this morning (don't tell Frogboy) and yes, I thought it was as good as I remember.

I personally would love to see some new text adventure games. They can be fun!

Zork was what got my son started with his love for computers. He played it back in '88 on an an Apple 500c and got hooked on techno-geekisms. Now he's enjoying a successful carreer as a software developer...

I think Zork was a great educational tool and a game that really inspired creativity and imagination. I wish the genre had become more popular instead of disappearing in favor of explicit graphics...

Zork also inspired me to start programming.
One of the first things I wrote my self (and not copied out of a magazine) was a little game/ai thing that acted similar to zork. You would enter in your name, and then it would ask you some questions and then make some random comments based on your answers. Nothing very pretty thats for sure. But that was the start of my programming life.

One game I would love to see make a comeback with a new game engine and graphics facelift is the archade game Marlbe Madness. I just remember the energy level that game use to bring about....the insanity of trying to spin that giant track ball fast enough to get the marble around the course. The only drawback would be that you would go thru trackballs like crazy....

There was a text based game that i used to play on my Vic-20. I really wish I could remember the name of it. I was pretty younge back then, but I still remember wasting a lot of time on it. You had to yell at bears, collect gems, and collect things in a "bladder" while avoiding chiggers. It was a cool game!

Ack, no Marble Madness, I always ran out of time in the final course (sooo annoying).
