Got a new puter

Got a new puter with Windows ME. Anyone know why I can't reboot in DOS mode? Please help. Thanks.

because the ME stands for self indulgent OS, it likes to always be in control and never wants you to leave. Possesive little sucker isn't it.

Here's a thought: get rid of ME and get win2k!! ME is the worst OS to leave the MS building! Win2k on the other hand is their best by far. XP is just littlered with crap.

Because there is no DOS mode to reboot to.

Well then. Just restart you comp and hold down CTRL or both of them. It may be the shift keys, too. Well, try them both. You'll get prompted to choose a way to continue. You can also try pressing "DEL" to enter setup which will also let you abort and enter DOS.

Good luck.
Get WINDOWS 2000!!!

Oh, and you can install win2k without being in DOS. Just pop the CD in and click "yes" to the "Do you want to install win2k?" prompt.

They're right you know, Win2k is the one true path. Doesn't the "hold down f8 after POST" work any more? If not, you might want to try the old "shift-f5 after POST" (that's between when it's finished counting the RAM and when the windows logo pops up btw).

I might be wrong, but DOS is still there in WinME, it's just rather well hidden. Don't know how to find it though, but it is possible.

Pop a floppy in, go to My Computer and right click the A:\ drive. Select "format" and in the next window, select "Create DOS boot disk"...restart and the rest is history.

Better yet...once you have the boot disk...exit to the Dos prompt and type 'format c:' and get rid of ME totally...

HeHeHe. None of you have really had to boot up into dos (or safe mode with me, have you???? The way to do it, is reboot your pc and hold F8 down when it is going to load. Your pc is probably so fast, this will be difficult, but before the splash screen, when it says loading os or something similar you need f8 to be down. This will give you a boot menu like on win95/98. you can then choose out of dos logged safe mode normal etc. Hope this helps!
