I saw this a short time ago.........If anyones interested. Rather ironic bearing in mind the data theft incident.

What's the catch? Or is it damage control.

BTW: I dl'd two. The anti-maiware/anti-virus app and the HDD app. The first one is 111mb heavy. The other barely nine. We shall see.

Ya, I dl'd 2 also the Internet Optimizer and the HDD control.  It seemed to report lot's of fragmentation on my HD but other progs don't show that.  Also tried to use a standard install of all their junk toolbars their junk websearch and junk homepage.  Reminds me of gimmick software.

Automatically installed a free trial of their Win Optimizer prog.  I already have one so I de-installed that.

But.. it is free and it is their full versions so thx Leo! \o/

Another thing I noticed is that Ashampoo AV software isn't in any major AV software evaluations.

On a positive note the Ashampoo Internet Accelerator product does seem to perform well and is easy to use.

Ashampoo AV has the Avira engine.

But I would sick with the bigger guys when it comes to security.

The anti virus is only free for 6 months, after that, if you want definition updates then $$$. I did d/l the HDD control, haven't installed it yet. Thanks for the link. :)

I downloaded and installed a couple of them.

One thing, be sure to choose custom install and uncheck the tool bar and other BS.

The HDD Control is a ten day trial version. Want more. Upgrade to the 'full' version which is what I thought it was.

BTW - I deleted the others. If they say full version it shouldn't say trial 'after' you install, run, get license key and register. Buncha BS.

Would surprise me. If Ashampoo says they're full trials, they usually are. Did you follow the instructions carefully ? You should get a full version anyway. I've been using Ashampoo products for some 10 years now. I get almost daily E-mails, but I rarely fall for their requests to buy this or that. Sometimes you can even decide yourself what you want to pay for a product.

Quality-wise the products are usually average except for their uninstaller. Usually if they offer you a free product they're previous versions, as is prob with this HDD control version since there's a new version. The HDD control only checks internal disks and does not seem to recognize the external one's. They promised/claimed that their new version of the HDD Control would recognize more hard disks. Not true, it still doesn't recognize any externals.

When you install the first one it opens a browser and asks you to register. All you have to do is give an email address...you can leave the other fields empty, and it will open another window with a key and they will also email you a reg key. Then you have a full version program.

This worked on the HDD program, the auto play creator, and the slideshow proram for me earlier today.

Yes. I did all that. right after registering I was told you now have the ten day test app for evaluation. And that's for the HDD. I didn't bother with the other ones.
