ARGH! modifying save games?

So this one game I think to myself, ''I might as well construct my stellar forge now. It's never been of use to wait for a planet better suited to producing starships anyway''. A few turns later I happen upon a PQ 8 and I can interrogate the crew for a +40% starship bonus... :smitten: . But I want my stellar forge there too. How can I delete the improvement so I can build it on my other planet instead? as expected, the save game file is just a bunch of dribble and I can't locate anything that looks like it's connected to the improvement. Or something indirect, like changing its type into a normal improvement or making it decommissionable or something?

Can't you just load an earlier saved game, before you built the Stellar Forge?

As far as I know there's no way to mod saved game files, and it might be dangerous to try.

You can use a hex editor such as hexplorer to edit the .sav files in the My Documents game directory. I forgot the specifics, but this thread should have that part in there somewhere: https://forums.galciv2.com/382375 .
