[1.20b] Tactical Battle Freeze - Only Way to Exit is Autoresolve

This has happened to me on occasion in the past few builds. I enter tactical combat and then start to do my thing but suddenly I can't attack or move any units. End turn button doesn't work either. If I hit the auto-resolve button from within tactical combat it will end successfully and go back to the strategic map. I tried to duplicate the issue by loading the prior save, reentering the same combat, and performing the same steps. I was unable to duplicate it. I peeked at the debug and nothing in there to help. I wish I had more info besides the save and printscreens to help debug this but alas, it seems to be an elusive little bugger. Please note that the results on the victory printscreen do not match the actuals I experienced within the tactical combat. Maybe that will help debug?

At any rate here's the information right before it happened:

Left Fanboy - used 1 action to attack, was hit for 2 on counter, then I switched to right Fanboy to spread out the counter dmg

Right Fanboy - used 1 action to attack, was hit for 2 on counter, tried to switch back to Left Fanboy. After clicking on Left Fanboy is when the combat "froze" where it would not allow the units to attack or move.

 

Frogboy - haven't used any action points yet because the combat is frozen

Bandit - note he has used 2 of 3 action points countering both Fanboys and has 24/36 hp remaining

At this point I hit auto-resolve (after experiencing this before I knew it would work). Below is the Victory screen. PLEASE NOTE: The victory screen shows that Frogboy took 2 dmg, not 2 dmg each to both Fanboys. As you can see from the above printscreens, both Fanboys had 2 dmg and Frogboy had none. The results of the victory screen do not match the stats before combat froze. Maybe that will help track this down?

It happened again in another combat.

Bottom Fanboy - attacked using 1 ap, countered, switched to middle Fanboy

Middile Fanboy - attacked, countered, switched back to bottom Fanboy - combat frozen (can't move, can't attack, can't end turn, can only auto-resolve)

Frogboy - note full action points and can't do anything

Bandit - note has 21/39 hp remaining and has used 2/4 action points

Victory Screen via auto-resolve - Note that again one of the Fanboy's took no damage yet Frogboy did. The victory results do not jive with actuals that I experienced before the freeze. PS - I didn't get a damn ring this time.

I've had the same freeze issue in H now. I have to auto out of it as well. :'(

This is an old one. I haven't seen it in a while, but I have not had a chance to get the latest version yet.

I have had this happen quite often in i, never had it happen in h. Go figure.

Just had this happen in 1.19k.

  1. Attacked drone with Fanboy - damaged and counter damaged
  2. Attacked drone with Frogboy - damaged and counter dodged
  3. Attacked drone with Frogboy - damaged and counter damaged
  4. Attacked drone with Fanboy - damaged and counter dodged
  5. FREEZE - had to auto-resolve to clear combat
  6. Auto-resolve screen results DO NOT match actuals of combat - auto-resolve indicates Fanboy took no damage, actuals Fanboy took 3 damage before I auto-resolved. [Edit] Looks like the auto-resolve results only capture damage, xp, etc. from the point of auto-resolve forward. It does not capture results from the tactical combat prior to the auto-resolve. Is this by design or a bug?

This has been happening since v1.0... I'm sure it's hard to reproduce so that's probably why they've never fixed it.

Just had this happen again in 1.19l. Had to auto-resolve to leave combat.

I loaded up Elemental, after yesterdays patch (1.19l), for the first time in a couple months. I hit this bug twice in a two hour period, so it's not exactly uncommon.

After a long hiatus, I decided to give Elemental another shot, only this time I'm playing the campaign in v1.19l. In my very first battle, I encountered the freeze bug, but I did not have a save file to go with it.

I sent this one in several times over the last couple of builds.  Happened again yesterday with the newest build.

I've sent in game saves, but it doesn't seem to replicate.

This just happened in 1.19m. Pulled Frogboy's stack out of Capital2 to attack Umber's sov. Just doing my thing in tactical and had to auto-resolve.

Try selecting a unit, then right click on it. Then do that for each of your units. I haven't had a time where that didn't fix it for some reason. It seems to occur when you right click on something out of reach in that current turn. At least for me anyways.

Cool deal, thanks. I'll give it a shot. I knew to do that for weirdness on the strategic map but didn't even think to try it in tactical.

Hi - this just happened again in 1.19m. I tried right clicking all units but no luck. Here's the last few lines of the debug that might be relevant to the tactical combat.

It happened for me in 1.19m too. I tried everything, only the Autoresolve button worked, but I had eliminated the most dangerous units by the time the battle froze.

I am having this issue approx every 5 - 10 tac battles.

bloody autoresolve LOVES to waste mana and also assumes that ALL units only have two moves per turn, so ignores the effects of my speedrings that boost tac battle speed only.

I have had one of the tac battle freezes in 1.2 and it cost me the game as my sov was battleing and had 34 combat speed with enough attack to at most two shot most units(even chances of singleshoting the units) and the fourth action of mine in the battle and could not attack ANY unit as it did not respond, and the ONLY thing that still worked was the autoresolve( which DOES NOT count the combat speed  OR RANGE/distance between units so all units can even when armed with a DAGGER/sword/hammer/staff(range of a single square), can hit from a distance of over 5 squares(catapults & bows only range) without moving.

I'm also seeing this in 1.2. Some games more frequently than others.

I just got this in 1.2a, while attacking another faction's capital city.  It happened EVERY TIME I reloaded the fight, but the time it occurred varied(usually between rounds 2-4 of combat).  Finally I was able to get a game that I was able to whittle down the opposing forces enough to trust auto resolve.  

I will try the suggestion impinc had if I get again.  Wish I kept my save, but I found this thread after I finally won the battle.
