Clarification

I asked this elsewhere, but I just want to be completely sure. If I pre-order Rebellion, it will include everything; as in all 5 factions, all the ships, and I will be at no disadvantage to someone who owns Trinity and pre-orders this? I just wanted to make sure, so that I don't buy what I don't have to, but also don't miss out on anything.

Look, it was just announced, so getting sure answers will be difficult. I'm amazed they have pre-order up already.

That being said: What we do know is that it is a standalone expansion. You dont need trinity to play. As far as we know, there is no 'advantage' or 'extra feature' if you get just that, and if we find out before release that maybe certain things from Rebellion require you own Trinity, you can then just grab Trinity and your golden.

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance was a standalone expansion, and if you didn't get the original SupCom you couldn't play as the original three races in skirmish/multiplayer among other things.

Yet for Sins they are giving a discount for owning Diplomacy (persumably because all the previous content will be included), so that approach would seem unlikely. Though I agree with SithLord, you might want to wait and be sure.

The closest parallel I can think of would be the first Dawn of War series and all those expansions being standalone. You could only play the races of the expansions you owned in multiplayer.

right, i thought of that too. still, if you want Rebellion, theres no harm in pre-ordering that. In the worst case scenario, its just like if you went and got one of those dawn of war expansions. you have the new factions, but not the original. you can do multiplayer and whatnot. But what I was saying was that word about how it all will work isnt available now, if he wants to know so he can preorder

Im going to go ahead and assume that he wants to preorder now so that he maybe gets in on the beta. So, lets say he does that and then between now and then we get a message from the developers saying "if you have the original sins, it unlocks giant bazooka ships". So then he knows he has to have trinity to get that. If he really wants it, he goes and buys trinity and its still at least 3 days from release, so he'll be fine on day 1. where is the issue? if you dont think it'd be worth the money, im sure you would be able to cancel the preorder. seeing as how you dont even own anything.

and actually, the way I at least understand it: theres only 2 factons, rebel/loyalist, which are brand new and are breakdowns of the existing 3 races. so, not 5 anyway you slice it. Either 2 or 6.

rebellion will act more like sins 1.5 than a stand-alone expansion... aka, it will contain everything.

And, either 6 factions... or... the standard 3 factions, and at some point in the game you have to make a choice, branching your research.
