I remember when my "Love's Dying Embers" cursor got ripped and put on DA....... took months for them to remove it, and meanwhile he stole about 8000 downloads from me.................. Good luck getting these removed. B[]

i hope you don’t misunderstand me when I’m saying this but, not every Deviant is a bandit,
most of them are just unaware that they need a permission to post things created from others...'
On Deviantart you barely find 1 single wallpaper or skin that has only original self-created stuff in it sadly...
most of them use materials found on the web and just use them and manipulate them for their own needs...
I also don’t like to see that, to tell you the truth and i understand your anger but there are by far more threatening
websites and uploaders out there that cover almost everything...
I had some uploads over at DA also and sold them just to get a notice from the guy who bought my work that i have released it to the public… he even gave me a link from the person that used it.
I had to give the guy refund...And i lost almost  3 weeks of hard work.
I can understand the anger created by those uploaders and I feel you guys but I´m also a fan of DA so this Title is a bit offending to me. Sorry hope you can understand.

Roloccolor ... it's not 'offensive', it's a statement of reality.

Most people here are also members of Deviantart.com [as am I], however it is the nature of Deviantart's upload policy of 'post-moderation' that means the issue of copyright abuse and theft is quite prevalent.  Their Admins have to cope with internal complaint at a higher level than the fairly infrequent issues outsiders have with their users.... but the sheer size of the site means moderation of uploads is simply unable to be done.

Re your issue...I don't quite follow it as to why you had to refund someone.  If the product was yours to sell then whom-ever made it freely available [?] has no bearing on your rights to sell.

This is not the first time, especially in recent history, that someone from DA has done this. I am a member there as well as here for over five years. I don't see this as 'slamming' DA at all.

That said, I have to say I don't quite agree with the following statement, either.

A lot of artists here are also members at DA.  There is tons of original work on both sites. DA does have a huge group of artists that work with stock images, but they take care to follow the rules and I see their work as original as every one elses.

Finally, DA, like Wincustomize, has rules posted on the site for submitting work, etc., etc. Without knowing this guys age, no matter what it may be in reality, he is obviously to immature to be posting or he would have read the guidelines before he posted or he actually 'knows' the rules and doesn't give a rats ass. He's been a member there for two months, so he's had time to look around. It's not like he actually created these cursors and went looking for a place to post them. He took the time to download them all from other sites. SOmewhere, in all his pilfering, he had to have come across some mention of rules or some mention of how this kind of behavior is frowned upon, among other things.

Nothing personal, but I am so sick and tired of people coming to the defense of this kind of behavior. Again, this isn't the first time for DA or  other sites. The most recent occurrence with a DA artist was rather ugly, disturbing, and left a very bad taste in my mouth.

since it was my fault i uploaded it on deviantart before it was actually sold, it was just a sceenshot of my work not the rig itself but the guy used it im not sure if he grabbed it from my DA personal page before i have sold it but it was used in another totally diffrent artwork and so i had to give refund to the person who bought my rig since it was already public. I also hadnt made any statement that people need a permission to use my work or any content be it a preview or anything esle from my personal page.I work overtime and do this at night mostly maybee i was too exhausted to remember adding tose tiny lines of text.What iam trying to say is if you want something to be not used by anyone be sure to mention that and sign your work be it a screenshot a preview or anything else.
Its just way to hard to actually track those guys down and its nearly impossible to get them to pay for the damage caused by them.
My case was like one thread that i started here on WC by me where i was looking for help and tips posing a model here on wincustomize i just wanted some feedback for my work if its ok or not...
I didnt add any info that this is my work and that you have to explicit ask if it can be used or not.
Since the buyer wanted to use it for some character setup or basic model in Zbrush maybee for some rendering or whatever i had to give him a refund.
Simply as it was my own fault i should have never ever uploaded it to DA and thats what i can recommend to everyone.If you may want to sell your stuff be it for commercial use or anything likely.Now my text is superlong like always since i cant concentrate anymore and my lack of english doesnt make it shorter in any way sorry

And iam so NOT trying to defend the guy that posted that...iam just unsure at this point if he just wanted to show off his lets say uhm... best found cursors he gathered all over the www over the past years.please dont understand me wrong im trying my very best atm to get myself out of what i might explained the wrong way >_<

I know that he must have read something that states that he must include a link to the source or at least something like that.
But as you said he might be too young to understand.Or he never created something on his own and doesnt think about the fact that the same could happen to his work if he ever created something digital in his life.

Roloccolor...your screenshot upload...that was taken and used by another person...causing you to give a refund is copyrighted to you.

You did not have to give a refund, in fact you could legally pursue the person who made yuse of your upload without your consent.

Copyright is INHERENT.  IT does not need to be formally declared.

I think the guy in question knows that what he's doing is wrong. I see that every comment about ripping is quickly hidden.

Yeah I made a comment too and reported his submissions. He knows what he is doing is wrong. I had a wallpaper of mine ripped once. When I confronted the guy he said it was OK for him to upload because he did not state that it was his. I said OK let me come steal your girlfriend then, I won't tell anyone.

Correct but so far he has not figured out he can stop people from posting comments. I just left another one.

By the way every time I log on to deviantart I always get a party poker pop up. It is the only site that does that to me and it is annoying as heck.

The best process is to not attack the person but to 'attack' the issue.

He is clearly ignorant of the reality and legality, so no name calling will help.

If he has your property send a policy violation notice to Devart.  They will resolve it for you...;)

While it took a few days last time it happened to me, after reporting the rippers, dA removed my stuff.

I was a contributor to dA at one time and still have a membership so I can comment.

I decided it was time to pull my stuff when it was being ripped and reposted from their own site. I was able to supply them with a link to my work on dA that was clearly posted over a year prior to the rippers post on dA.

If dA can't police their own site, I'm not going to upload there. Perhaps one day that may change.

They did  remove the Black Wodow cursor which was the only one of mine that was uploaded by itself however there are over 220 cursor on his page most are packaged in 40+ cursors per zip one says it has 100 in it ,Pretty sure none are his and I recognize most of the SS's from here!

That person should be punished somehow.
