Can't reinstall app after license expires?

Can't reinstall app after license expires?

Ok so my license for object desktop recently expired. and i don't feel like there is anyway reason to do a license update atm. However, when i went to install deskscape which i had recently installed, it will not allow me to do so because my license code as expire

now i was under the impression that i would be allowed to keep using the software at the latest version b4 my code had expired despite the fact that my licensing code is no long valid for future updates, r was i mistake and the object desktop page mistaken?

JC:  I think the issue is that there may be some confusion on what a subscription does give you.  The common example given is, like a paper magazine subscription,  if you subscribe and archive you can get your apps back whenever.  there seems to be some issues/concerns about how this is actually working for some users.

The question isn't whether this is right or wrong or whether it's cost effective, it's whether a user was sold one thing and given another.

You make a good point Zubaz. I always heard that you could keep using the software but just would not be able to update it. I only recently heard about archiving your purchases and now I hear that if you uninstall then your out of luck and that in some cases archiving has even failed. With the subscription the owness is on the customer to back up their purchase but that should be better communicated in the purchase email even though it is common sense.

dude that is not common sense at all. Their site clearly state that you will be able to continue to use the software after your subscription as expired. However, what it does not clearly state is the fact that, that's only true so long as you don't uninstall it. Which was not the case with me. That is something that they need to make VERY CLEAR to their customer, else its you can as in my case, consider it a scam to force customers to renew this subscription.

Also there may be a lot of software in Object Desktop, but most of them is completely useless cause there is much better free alternative out there. I personally only used Fences, Deskscape, and WindowsBlind.

I just think that stardock needs to make it clear how exactly the subscription work, which the way it works now is completely retarded to be honest. I just really don't see myself ever purchasing this product again. Cause they made no attempts resolve my issues, which says something about them as a company.

Relax Gungrave223. If you read my last comment you will understand I am seeing it both ways. There is a point to what your saying. I was only making a personal statement that I have no problem with the cost of renewal. As I have said there should be better communication regarding what you can and cannot do after your subscription expires.

Access to a program download and actual continuing functionality of a program are two very different things.

It is the currency of the subscription that gives you access to the product.  When the subscription expires your access ceases with it.  That is what a 'subscription' means.

Exactly like a magazine subscription.

Jafo, It is a little different in that for SD sold apps you have to use Impulse restore archives.  It needs to recognize that even though your subscription is over, the archived apps should still install.  I think that was part of this user's issue.

Jafo I do not think that is what the problem is. Some have said that after your subscription expires you can still continue to use the software but cannot update it. So in other words if you have version 7 of WB installed you can continue using it but could not update to newly released versions. The issue is when some have deleted without backing up their software. Yes it might be common sense to backup but not everyone is as computer suave as some or they are simply not aware they need to archive. I have had ObjectDesktop installed for sometime and only recently learnt of archiving. That leads to another problem where there are complaints that archiving has not worked for reinstalling software that has been deleted. If you have a computer problem and have to reformat then it sounds as if your out of luck. If I subscribe to a magazine and my subscription expires I still have use of the magazines in my possession. Some are having problems with the use of software they got with the subscription whether it is their fault or not. So maybe their should be something written in the purchase email giving more specifics so people know they should be backing up their stuff on disk or flash drive because archiving seams to not be enough.

JC, you can't "fool proof" things for the obvious reasons.

If I subscribe to a magazine and my subscription expires I still have use of the magazines in my possession.

Only if you haven't thrown them away. That's exactly what we're talking about. If you want issues you received and threw away you have to buy them separately, don't you?

maybe there should be something written in the purchase email giving more specifics so people know they should be backing up their stuff on disk or flash drive because archiving seams to not be enough.

That isn't a bad idea. I'm not sure people actually bread the written word, though or understand what they've read.

Doc that is not the point I am making. What I am saying is why have an archive feature if it is not working for some people or if there are a lot of people who are not even aware of that feature. Did I not read somewhere someone saying they archived but could not restore their software? Also giving some extra guidance is never a bad idea even if people do not read it. At the very least it covers your ass.

Yep this is the point I was trying to make. And honestly I had full intention of renewing my subscription, just not until august since I wont have access to my computer until then starting next month. All I wanted was to be able to continue using the product until I leave, and then I would renewed it when I came back in a couples months. Impulse is just clearly a flawed when it comes to how subscription is read by the app.

This is my issue as well - WB was working fine for me even after my subscription ran out. I did my weekly reboot 2 weeks back, and then it was gone (non-functional). I couldn't install it again because my subscription was out, I did have archives, but they cannot be restored. Until I get some of my Christmas debts paid, I can't renew my subscription. I'm between a rock and a hard place.

I also don't know if after I re-up my subscription if WB will be able to work again or not. The failure of Impulse to restore from archive has me a little gun shy about shelling out another year's subscription fee.

I do have a support ticket open - it has taken about 48 hours between email responses. I am getting SO SICK of basic windows. I feel like an addict going through withdrawls.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!
