impulse installs crapware?

so i noticed after installing objectdesktop and impulse that i now have crapware installed on my machine.

by crapware, i mean norton security.

did it come from stardock, or some other place. it would totally bite to pay 50 bucks for a program and it installs bloatware on my machine?  and norton? could you find a security program thats any worse?

that just plain sucks

It came from some other place.  Stardock doesn't do that kind of thing.  :sun:

What else have you downloaded recently?

nicholas vaquez.... either you inadvertently installed NIS yourself, or it was already on your machine and you hadn't noticed.... but it was very definitely not the result of Installing any of Stardock's software.....;)

If I remember correctly Adobe Reader will install Norton Security if not paying attention to the install.

Stating what Heigar said. If I remember correctly Norton Won't even install if another anti-virus program is already on the system. So maybe it has been there all along. IN fact I don't know of any virus program that will install if another is already on the computer and screens pop up stating this.

"I have also gotten norton with a shockwave update"

Everyone walk away from Norton when their AV was bloatware. Now that they have got the software right, do they think doing this type of thing will get us back ... <_<

Only problem is that this will install even if you have another AV, I noticed it on my wife's computer with MSE installed...(It can be uninstalled, in which was done promptly after I discovered it)!

The hardest thing to change is "I had a bad experience then, so don't confuse me with the facts now."

Kind of exemplifies the phrase "Can't even give it away"   XD

I hated Norton for many many years because of the system resource hog that it became.  I tried it again in 2009 after reading great reviews about it.  It is so much cleaner than before and now I tell people that is the best out there now.  I work in the IT field and can't stand McAfee, now that is bloatware 101.

Per your original post, Stardock doesn't add any crapware.

Once I added an SSD to my computer last year as the boot HDD, it boots into Windows 7 64bit with over 120 processes running and many of Stardocks programs running in under 40 seconde from turn on to Desktop being ready to go.  That includes Norton 360 v4.0 Premier which runs <1% CPU almost constantly.

Stardock has a lot of great products if you love to customize!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I learn somethign all the time. I have tried many times over the years to add another virus program and couldn't . I better get up to speed or better yet continue to do as i'm doing and that is to stay away from anything i'm not sure about. Thank's for the info Heigar.

You do remember correctly. I recently had to re-add Adobe reader in order to read a pdf that required it. Norton was piggy backed on it and it was quickly shown the door.

Where did you D/L Adobe Reader from, Uvah?

I just this past week installed AR 10 from Adobe's site and it offered to install a browser toolbar (?Yahoo, which I of course declined) but nothing else.  I know Reader's downloadable from at least some third parties and I wonder if that's where it came from.

As a side comment, I don't think Symantec would be doing themselves any favors if they went the Trojan Horse route; and I think they're smart enough to know that.
