WinCustomize Community Skinning Project

WinCustomize Community Skinning Project

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen

It has been awhile since the last Community Skinning Project.

To start off, all community skinners are eligible and encouraged to submit a WindowBlinds entry for a contest.   Yes you read that correctly, a contest with the winner's WindowBlinds being used as the theme for the community project as the prize.

A few rules, only one entry per skinner and it must meet the established guidelines for uploading of a WindowBlinds.  Since this is for a Community Project and we know the community still uses XP, Vista and now Windows 7 you know what we are looking for.  The entries on a minimum will be skinned for Windows 7.

Volunteers are needed to judge the entries.  One simple rule, if you volunteer to judge you can not submit a WB.  You can however sign up to make themed skins.  We need a minimum of five but no more than ten judges.  I'm expecting a lot of entries. :O

When does the contest end, Friday the 18th of March.  All entries for the contest will be uploaded to the WinCustomize WindowBlinds Gallery Library no earlier then Monday, 14 March (you really don't want to show your entry to the other skinners early now do you?) :-"   and no later than Friday, 18 March.  All entries should include 'For Community Skinning Project' in it's description.  Winner will be selected on Friday, 25 March.

Once a winning theme is selected community skinners will be able to sign up for skins they wish to make and get the graphics and start skinning.

What can you make a themed skin for you ask, if it has a WinCustomize Library you can make a skin for it

Can there be multiple skins as in two or three Wallpapers or Logons, yes, but only one per skinner.

Can a skinner sign up to do several different skins, yes.

Only one rule for themed skins, they will use the theme graphics.  The only exceptions will be for Screensavers, Dreams and Wallpapers.  These will though have a tie in to the theme of the project.

Please leave a reply to this thread if you will be submitting an entry in the contest.

:sun:

I knew it would come down to the wire. Everyone's in panic mode now. "Where's the last skin? I'm freaking out!"

I have text and colors to go, so it'll be up soon. :moon:

Yup, that is correct.

Two judges have voted so far.  :sun:

I vote for all of them. That way I don't have to be selective.

wow that was quick, how are they road testing the skins?

flipping through it in skin studio , or actually using it for at least a day?

Hopefully I'll have mine (vote) in by tomorrow. I've given each one a day of use so today it'll be Tea Time's day. Gonna be a tough decision though...they're ALL good!

Yes, Vamps... Using them alternately. As you know, I'm not a skinner so what I'd actually see in SKS eludes me. I only use it to rmove glyphs and the like. I do have a good visual analytic sense, though..from photography and medicine... and above all, I'm fair.

Not sure others will agree with my choices and reasons... but in the end, even with as much objectivity as can be applied, we all have individual biases... best I can ever hope for is to be aware of them and temper my impressions accordingly.

flipping a coin worked for me, just kidding, really. :-"

once a criteria is established the process of review goes a little easier.

For me, it was a good experience however one I will choose to avoid in the future, way to much stress.

they were all great blinds and I congratulate you guys/gals. I kind of felt like a student having the opportunity to judge their teacher's work, and then not just one but five fold, way too much stress.

did I mention how stressful this was...

Wearing the skins is important for judging. I'm not sure how long one should wear each skin. Different people will need different lengths of time to decide.

Being a non WB skinner, SKS wouldn't help me, so I just use a skin to see if it is useable, well skinned, and interesting. Do all the parts work? Any bugs? Is everything skinned?  Really, you could use a skin for a week and not see every part of it.

I think all the skins are great in their own way.

im glad to hear all the wb's are being road tested in the right way, thats the only way to really test out a wb.

may the best man win.

xx

From looking at the entries submitted, as a non-skinner and non-judge I would say the community is the big winner here getting five great WindowBlinds for their desktops with one being chosen to be the theme for the next WinCustomize Community Skinning Project.  I don't think it gets much better than that.

I need to inform you that it looks like we are one judge down.  I have tried to contact PCPrincess but have not gotten any response.  If anyone knows how to contact her please do.  Thanks.  :sun:

EDIT:  Just saw PCPrincess making a comment on one of the skins.  Sent her a PM so hopefully she will respond. :sun:

How true! Congrats all. Superb works. Awesome talents.

Thank-you  <3

The FIRST thing I've done with all the blinds is check them section by section in SKS then use them like I would any other blind during the course of a routine day and finally I'm thinking about how it would look as an entire suite of skins. Just my criteria though... to each his own.

well she left a comment on my skin today at 9.07 so she is obviously downloading the entries.

I'm glad I'm not judging these. Way too hard as they are all excellent skins. So far I've run two of them. Not saying which ones though.
