Ok I'm still new to the game, but can you at some point use these, without a quest? i.e. built a smith in your cities?
Because I seem to have either quest to use the stones ore the stone to use, with a rare game where i have both.
if you research some of the adventure and domination techs, you will uncover more goodie huts. sometimes those goodie huts are the lv0 battlefields that generate the midnight stones. but yes, you can end up with no midnight stones to trade. too bad you cannot mug enemy champions and steal their stones...
It seems to me that any quest that asks for a gewgaw ought to generate the places where the gewgaw can be found. Otherwise the fact that they're so random means the questing experience is inconsistent and frustrating.
Actually, I have never played a game where I did not find at least 3 of them early on in the game... but I allways agressively scout out rival factions zones of control to "liberate" their goody huts.
Some games I've ended up with so many of those stones that I wondered why I couldn't use them to build some "special" buildings or gear with them later in the game...
