rotating the map in elemental

Hi Just bought the game and trying my first steps. One thing is frustrating me that is rotating the world map. I read somewjhere about holding down the scroll wheel but that just sends my map into all kinds of nonesense, I can rotate it with I think its the shift key and arrows but frankly if i could get something to hold teh keys down i could make a cup of tea in teh time it takes to creak around 90 degrees. Why cant I just press something, wiggle the mouse and whip it around as I want it - or maybe I can?

Looking forward to your advice.

Holding down the scroll wheel and moving the mouse around does the trick. Not sure why you're experiencing problems.

If I press my scroll wheel, the game minimizes and then the desktop is in view.

If I press the wheel again, the game maximizes but crashes with some dx error.

My mouse is kaput, I suppose, and I can't bind a different key to manipulate the map either.

As a result, I now have torticollis for having the my head positioned at a constant angle while playing..and I can't get a 360-degree view of my cities or Sovereign.

:hugme:

I think its whatever you have set to the middle mouse button.

well i have updated drivers. scoured the forums. and reset all of the options in the provided software but i cant get the map to rotate (not scroll - which is fine) with the mouse any combinatin of mouse buttons or kb holds. I have an Anywhere MX mouse from Logitec.

Like my mate earlier in the posts Im getting a crick in my neck from taking the quickest option to rotate my view rather than grind my way with the ctrl and direction arrows.

your Logitch mouse driver software apparently has its middle mouse button click set to Minimize the current application.

Look in the Windows toolbar for the Logitech mouse control utility double click on that icon to view your mouse settings.  You should be able to change the Middle-click button to "default" or something that doesn't minimize the current window.

Also, the last time I used it, the Logitech control panel also had a "Game Mode" which you might be what you're looking for.

you sure you can't customise mouse buttons with logitech drivers? it's a bit rubbish though as not all options are there for each button...

eg.. i'm using the revolution mx... there are like 2 buttons on the side next to the thumb.. and i think i set one of those to the middle button, because the button at the top (not the one on the wheel as i never set wheels as middle button)... you can't actually set as middle button. i have that as double click instead.

think i don't have problems moving things around in elemental with the middle button as i set it up as..

... but pretty sure it doesn't work when i use my ms mouse (when i charge the logitech one)... probably because i don't install ms drivers (2 sets of mouse drivers are apparently bad)

Is there a hotkey that lets you pop back to the default camera angle?

the keyboard shortcuts are on page 37 of the manual that came with 1.1

and there is no key mentioned for restore default view angle.

that worked mate - much appreciated. I reassigned the 'forward' button on the side as you uggested to 'middle mouse' and i can now scroll to my hearts content. Cheers.
