Thoughts on the first expansion...

Greetings to all...While we all enjoy playing 1.1, I wondered if Brad or Derek would mind giving us all some details on the first expansion, (i.e. release dates, content, what to expect.)

i wantet to say we get a redesign tactical battles :D iam almost 100% sure about that for the first expansion :D

Yeah, they've said tactical battles are being revamped. Amongst other things, the long-awaited "simultaneous turns" in tactical combat (where units each calculate for their own turn in one single line, and you don't get to move all your units at the same time).

There have also been some hints to quests being changed somehow, supposedly breaking up the content into "parts" that can be auto-generated to be unique quests. (if they don't do it, I will)

I wouldn't be surprised if we would see something in regards to how the lore is implemented in the game (right now, it isn't).

Someone also said they'd work on giving each faction their individual tech tree and do some heavy work on making them feel more distinguished. However, I can't remember if this was for the first or second expansion. Most likely second, if they are going to revamp the tech trees completely, they'll probably mix it up with that whole "reducing the amount of trees" thing.

I'd say it's guaranteed we'll see more spells as well.

And then there's the talk about this new mod API guy joining them in January, that's bound to bring at least a few significant changes to modding.

And please some easy to do dynasty stuff....Heavenfall have you tried modding any of that?

Almost all of it is hardcoded. There are some variables that control how many kids you can have, and how fast they are born and grow up and so on.

I heard a rumor that instead of yearly expansions Elemental would be releasing content in a new Episodic format. Each one would be stand alone and would come out a lot faster than the current Expansion system most developers use.

I'm a bit confused; when you say simultaneous turns I'm thinking X-com, but what you describe sounds more like initiative based combat, which is it? Is this confirmed btw? (Not that they're redoing combat, but how they're doing it...)

Brad has said several times that there will be some sort of initiative based TC.

Simultaneous turns makes me think of AoW where everyone moves at the same time during a turn. I'm pretty sure that is not what Brad have in mind for Tactical combat.

Yeah, that's not what I meant either. What I meant was that rather than each player moving all his pieces in one go, then the other player taking his turn, now the order of how units are moved will be mixed according to some stat.
