The first theme I ever wanted to do was a green LCD theme, well, never got around to it.
There's been a few made ever since, haven't really satisfied my taste.
I thought finally it was time for me to knock one out.
I'll post the usual progress...

I was checking out this thread while using the Venom skin by the talented vstyler. In another window I just happened to have a web page opened showing the AFC South standings where, naturally, the awesome Jax Jags are leading the swayed back Indy Colts. As I admired the greatness of the Concept LCD pic I completely forgot about the other window (the NFL standings where the Jags are leading the Colts) UNTIL I clicked the LCD pic for a zoomed image.
Somehow the combined awesomeness of the two vstyler skins (Venom and LCD) on the same screen interacted with the NFL window and magically brought to life a jaguar and a colt. The physical embodiment of the two NFL teams. The colt just had a blank look on his face. The jag, upon seeing the colt, simply smiled.
The colt looked at the jag and said: Duh. Whatcha doin?
The jag, still smiling, said: About to have lunch.
The colt then asked: Really? Whatcha gonna have?
The jag, still smiling and moving closer to the colt, answered: Oh, I think it'll be a BIIIGGGG surprise.
Then as the jag used one of his claws to pick colt hair from his teeth he glanced at my computer screen and said: Hey! Awesome skins! Must be by that extremely talented vstyler dude.

I can rank the Colts so low they'll be playing handball up against the curb. Hows that? 
Or maybe this ... vStyler is so good he can skin with one mouse tied behind his back, with his eyes closed, sitting down, in a rocking chair, listening to Julie Andrews. That's enough. Any more and he'll come to Pa and make me go squish.

The all time great sucking up scene...
More definition now. Curious ...... are all the start menus, windows and such of a standard size? I ask because I know nothing about building a WB.
Start menu looks about 440 pixels wide, Uvah. I could be wrong.
I 'eye' pretty much everything, what can I say, been doing this a while, so no, not always the same but I'm usually pretty close, (never usually more or less than a couple of pixels off the size im going for)
If the mock-up doesn't translate well, size-wise when cutting up and building the WB, i can always make adjustments.
As far as start menu's, mine tend to be a bit wider than most others, I see no reason not to have plenty of space, as ur not doing anything else while start menu is open anyway.
This one is about 410 px wide.. i have made them as wide as 450.

Thanks for the info. When I did the smx for Garnet Storm I thought the start menu I used was too big for it. Glad I was wrong.
the back glow really adds to the blind, I like it, subtle but effective.
I like the idea of using a mock-up also, hmmm
only technical problem i see with this skin is,well it isn't finished yet
