Upgrades...

For some reasn, every time I start Stardock Central, I am prompted to update Windowblinds. I have already done this yet it repeatedly ask me to upgrade to the same version every time. Any ideas on why this does this? Thanks much for any assistance.

When you go into the software screen which shows all of the available updates is the WindowBlinds showing as having an update available or at that point does it show as current?

I had the same problem. My solution was to uninstall WB through add/remove programs, and then delete the WB folder completely. When I did a fresh install, the problem went away.

When I go to the software tab, this is what shows:

(Icon Packager icon), IconPackager, Installed 2.20.079, Available ------, Updated 11/17/2003

(Windowblinds icon)WindowBlinds4[Beta], installed 4.19j[b].002 Available 4.20.016, Updated 4.20.016, Updated 12/6/2003

(A star icon, then a little yellow folder) 4.x Skins, Installed -------, Available 4.20.005, Updated 12/6/2003 (don't know what this is ?)

(Windowblinds icon) WindowBlinds[Beta], Installed 4.19j[b].002 Available ------, UPdated 6/3/2003

I tried to do a print screen and paste it here but that didn't work!

Does this info tell us anything? I recall downloading the trial of WindowBlinds then pretty much immediately purchasing and registering the product...... TIA

It looks like digital_trucker has experienced the same thing and knows how to fix it. I would add that if you've downloaded skins you might want to back up those subdirectories before starting the uninstall so that you don't have to download them again - you can just copy them back over after you re-install. If you get an "overwrite?" prompt while you're copying them back over, don't overwrite. (All of the WindowBlinds skins reside in their own folders within the WindowBlinds folder, in case you didn't know, and when you delete the WindowBlinds folder you'll be deleting any skins you've downloaded.)

The WindowBlinds line is telling us that you do appear to need an update - I was wondering if you actually needed an update or if for some reason the SDCentral startup was just giving you a bad message. If you're hesitant to try the dig trucker's uninstall suggestion up front you might try going all the way into the software tab and updating from there instead of from the startup prompt, but my guess is that dig trucker probably tried that before he did the uninstall/reinstall. (BTW, the lines such as Icon Packager which have dashes in the "Available" column are telling you that your versions of those products are current.)

The "4.x Skins" update is a collection of skins for Windowblinds. I don't know what the update is specifically (if they added some, or changed some, etc.) but anyway I went ahead and loaded it. If you want to load them, you would want to load them AFTER you get your WindowBlinds issue fixed.

Let us know how it goes.

(BTW, anybody else can feel free to jump in here.)

I would uninstall both versions then just install WindowBlinds 4.x version.  The "WindowBlinds" one was there for 98/ ME users but will no longer be there since 4.2 is available for them.  In essence, you are updating it twice and may even have two installs of WindowBlinds at this point (or, at least SDC thinks you do) so it is trying to update both of them.

I encounter the same problem, and the only way I solve it is to update from the main window, not from the dialog box that appeared when I started SD Central.

Un-install SDC and re-boot. Re-install SDC https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp and let it self update. Make sure all your registration info is correct in the new SDC. Anything that does not show correctly in SDC after that, then un-install (or update) each proggie thru SDC (re-boot) and re-install thru SDC.
