[Bug?] AI equipment: is it playing fair or is the AI a naughty cheater ?

Here is my issue: I notice that the equipment of the sovereigns and champions of the AI reach high-tier very quickly. He doesn't know how to use them well and the game is still exploitable enough that this is not an issue, but I have seen enemy sovereign in heavy plate early game when none of his units had more than leather. I have seen many, many swords of wrath, a late-game item that costs a lot to buy, even though the AI never looks like it's swimming in money when I check the diplomacy window. That tends to bother me highly, because swords of wrath are okay if they stay exceptional. 5 enemy units with those weapons in a single tactical battle would be grossly overpowered if, again, there weren't so many exploits to use against the AI. 

Are the item store restrictions lifted for the AI ? Does it actually get items for free and before their tech level ? Seems that way to me, but I could be wrong ...

Last night, I encountered one Empire town that had 4 units, the faction SoV was one of them, that had some very, perhaps grossly inflated, ATT and DEF #'s.

Enough that my band of 8+ Champs and Hero's, from all walks of life, my SoV and one other could wield some limited Magic (AA, WW etc), were forced to bypass the town as there was no hope in hell of taking on that town despite the small # of Defenders.

I will record next time if it happens. I may actually still have the Save. I will update tonight if I do before patching further.

If the AI is still a walkover in the new patch, then the dev obviously hasn't buffed the AI troops/sovereign enough.

Yesterday, in patch 1.09q, wives for my sons...

 

Today, in patch 1.09r, wives for my sons in my last game:

 

Stats may be a bit off due to they being in a city while taking the pic and stuff, but aren't they sweet? :O

Sovereigns also happened to start with the Sword of the Sovereign and later switch to the Sword of Wrath... except Karavox that somehow managed to stick to it. Markinn, who had done NOTHING all the game (level 1 capital city and all) had one uber sword too. ¬.¬ Not that any of them could beat my army of "Uber Channelers of Doom and The Two Daughters-In-Law".

I've seen something similar in all the games I've played as well. Good thing I still have arcane arrow, spell blast and fire dart and can instantly imbue all my champions prior to battle. Cheese vs. cheese, my cheese wins.

I have had daughters in law come with ridiculous items as well, and fought a few sovereigns that ran around in full plate and one shotted my troops. His troops were clad only in leather..... Anyway ya touch of entropy solved that problem.
