Since the big crash.....

For some reason, since the servers went down, I cannot open either my Wincustomize browser or Stardock Central. Hence, I'm posting using the standard ol' browser. I don't know if it's related, and I don't see how it could be, but the timing thing....

Anyway, I'm at the point where I'm ready to uninstall and reinstall both programs. I'm just wondering if it's going to be difficult to set up my account again. Probably not. I'm also wondering if anyone else is having or has had these problems. Basically, if I try to open Stardock Central, it just goes into never never land, and I cannot even shut it down. It coninues to loop through the "Program is not responding..." dialogue box, but will not respond to closing it down. Not even from the Task Manager. Bincustomize browser just comes up with an empty page, then if I try to navigate around the site from the side bar, it also goes into never never land. I had to shut down my computer, by shutting down the power as the switch wouldn't even work, last night. Suck.........

Any thoughts?

Come on, guys. I need help here. I've uninstalled both SD Central and Winscustomize browser, and reinstalled them. They won't work. I've defragged. I've installed again. Nothing. Both programs just hang. > I need suggestions, please. This sucks.

Do you have Zone Alarm Firewall by chance?

Sorry I haven't responded right away. I was away for Thanksgiving. But, I'm back now; at least till tomorrow. Then, I'm off to nice, warm Orlando for the week.

Anyway, yes, I do have Zone Alarm. I checked the programs allowed, and all SD, OD, Wincustomize programs are allowed to access the internet without prompting. So, that's not my problem, I don't think. I tried again to uninstall everything, managed to get Wincustomize browser to work once, but now it hangs again. I tried downloading SC again, but that just refuses to load. And again, I cannot shut it down, either by just clicking on the X, or even going into task manager. It just won't close, unless I reboot. That's no way to close a program. I've defragged. Nada.

I uninstalled everything, when through and removed stuff that wasn't removed in the uninstall process, reloaded, and nothing. I can't access SD come hell or high water. I'm really getting really upset.

Any of you admin types listening? Any suggestions?

Ok...If you have a lot of settings and what not that you don't want to lose, then use the backup feature in ZA config and save to somewhere on your hard drive.(If you don't have a lot of permissions and settings then skip the backup). Go here http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/information/zap/releaseHistory.html and download version 4.0.146.029. Re-boot into safe mode and un-install the 4.5 version, re-start your computer and install the 4.0 version you downloaded....restore the saved settings (if you saved any) and all will now work.

Why would downloading ZA earlier version make a difference to how SC and/or Wincustomize browser function?

BTW, I did a system restore to one week ago. Restored beautifully, except the problem is NOT resolved.

A system restore will not do it... I beta for ZA and 4.5 was released with a huge amount of bugs (this being one of them). Re-install 4.0 and do not upgrade until the fix comes out in the next week or so.

Yrag, I never would have thought, in a million years, that Zone Alarm was the reason SD, WC, OD were all screwed up. But, I did as you suggested. Voila!!! Works like a charm. I'm now posting through Stardock Central, instead of my web browser.

THANK YOU!!!!!
