AI overhousing?

Just curious if there is a near future goal to fix that problem were the AI builds like 20 huts in each city in order to reach metropolis (AI, ever heard of houses?!) because so far going to war only ends me with a -100 food disaster, and demolishing half city is no fun at all.

Though I wonder... this issue is just becuase I am playing on begginer difficulty? I know that the AI capabilities are reduced... but this borders idiotic...

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer me.

Just raze the city and build your own in its place if you really need the resources, otherwise leave it empty.

Hope i dont scare people now, so they wont play me multiplayer when it works because i simply raze all other cities except mines :p

Just hope you've researched how to burn down hovels by the time you go to war... (yes, I think that mechanic is stupid).

Perhaps it's a bug, but when I raze a city, building over it is hard... it barely let's me place buildings unless a non ruin tile is adjacent... to effectively build I need to transform all previously city tiles to desert or snow (too slow)...

And besides, by the time the raze ability is obtained, I'm pretty much allied with everyone, I like to be the diplomat, stopping each war that erupts with my skills. :P

One would believe that setting fire to a city would be intuitive and not years to have researchers go "Guess what we discovered! Fire destroys cities, now we can raze those puny settlements we conquered!"

Seriously...

AI don't over-house, that I've noticed. I guess they could prioritize the tech for houses more highly, but it seems fine to me. The AIs don't build housing in excess of their ability to support, and even in Beginner, they don't check how convenient their cities are for potential conquerors. If you need additional food, get additional food production. It should be available, since the AI had access to it.

On the razing note: It is not as simple as setting a torch to a thatched roof. People in towns tend to not like the idea of their city getting burned down. Construction is not usually designed to allow easy burning, and civilians often have a bucket brigade. Razing a city is a nontrivial logistic endeavor.

We just conquered a city.... with trosps... the only ones in it...

It is historically acurate, as all houses are made of wood, and I doubt they are using much construction codes while just rebuilding the world...

The Mongols burned down Chinese villages; Romans did to half Europe, heck! Even Rome itself burned, while also made of stone!

They would surely find a way...

And about the food prodution... doesn't the AI has a multiplier or something? Because after the war is over and I have all of the enemy kingdom, my food is 10, after demolishing most huts... I did calcualte, and I would have been at -76 if not...

The AI acts as if food grew on the ground! .... wait....
