Very Frusterated...

I've been looking into buying Object Desktop for a long time and finally took the plunge a few weeks ago. I built a new computer and thought it would be fun to have a new desktop display. So I install Windows 7 Pro x64 and then install all the Windows 7 compatible Object Desktop programs. The new FX software is a lot of fun, and Windows blinds seems to work well. But then I noticed that exe icons were a little funny, AKA missing. Notice in the following pictures the white icon where there should be a exe icon. This is a system wide, non-user specific problem (I tried using a different user). Rebuilding icon cache doens't work, uninstalling Icon Package didn't fix it and none of the Icon Package repair/rebuild icon options worked.

My brother bought OD at around the same time and installed it on a new computer with Windows 7 Pro x64. After I discovered my "problem" I checked his computer and it is the same there.

This is obviously not system stopping but is it ever frustrating! I searched high and low in the forums and didn't come across anything that fixed my problem.

I had the same problem and have been frustrated for ONE YEAR (till five days ago), because i'm a ODesktop customer for a long time but couldn't use IP, wich is one of my favorite apps, on my Win 7 x64 computer.

The one and unique solution is here : http://forums.impulsedriven.com/399914

The fix works perfectly many many thanks to Sophiesboy, now i've got all my icons fixed and a fully working IP5, yay :grin:

Here's that solution:

"Please access your System Registry (XP - Start-> Run, Vista - WinKey +R) and in the run box type regedit. Then go to the following Key;

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\IconHandler

On the right side of the screen, if it has a value of {611AD258-4138-4348-A534-9856FA6BA398} you need to rename that registry key from 'IconHandler' to something else, IconHandlerX works.
Then reboot your PC and the Icons should come back."

Thanks for the responses. That fix doesn't work. After I uninstalled IP I checked for that registry key and it wasn't there. So then I reinstalled IP and the key is there but changing the name to IconHandlerX doesn't fix the issue.

Okay, let me partially take that back. It fixed the issue in the the last two pictures, but the issue in the first one is still there. So 2/3 of the way there...  ;)

Lantec, Those fixes are for Vista machines...he has 7 x64. Might work, though. Worth a try, Nori.

So, found something interesting... I just got to work and checked to see if the icon in the first picture was on my Win 7 machine. It wasn't. It also wasn't on one of my co-worker's computer. So its not a Stardock issue. So I guess you could say that it is operating normally.

Thanks guys.
