[Map Making] What determines resource spawn rate?

I've been trying out various user made maps.  One map, The Forge of Souls has a resource spawn rate to my liking.  After playing the map three times, I find that the resources and their locations vary.  So I guess they are not pre-placed then.  Or maybee you pre-place a certain number of resources, and then that many resources will be_randomly_generated?  The resources are occuring in greater numbers on some maps than they do in the random maps and others.  And in one user map, Knife, there are massive hordes of resources spawned.  There are too many resources in Knife for my liking.  And in The Forge of Souls it appears that the player always starts in the same location (3/3).  So I want to create a few maps of my own.  So how do these map makers create maps with a greater resource spawn?

In summary, you got the following resources on a map at start

1) Resources that each player gains when starting (in 1.09e that's a gold mine, a forgotten library and a fertile land)

2) Resources that are randomly placed (see topic above)

3) Resources that are placed due to talents that give additional resources

4) Resources that are placed due to technology that unlocks new resources)

5) Resources that are pre-placed on maps.

 

If you want a particular map to have more resources, your best option is to go with more of 5).

So pre-placed resources do work in v1.09n?

Are the starting resources for all players moddable at this point?

For The Forge of Souls map, the resources don't appear to be pre-placed since there is some variance from game to game.  Yet there are more resources in this map than the sandox maps.  In your list above, I'm not seeing how this is done.  Have some of the maps available for download been modded... beyond what we can do with the Cartographer's Table?

Pre-placed resources work, yes.

The 1) resources are not moddable. 2) and 3) are. 4) is sort of moddable, but with some limitations. 5) obviously moddable

The resources in that map are pre-placed. Keep in mind you have pre-placed, and then 1) 2) 3) 4) resources get placed.

There is also a map editor option to place a "random" resource, however I don't know if that works or how it works, but I know it's not used in the forge of souls map.

Cool, thanks Heavenfall aka EWoM's Mod Ambassador ;~p  I've spent a little time messing with the editor and find it somewhat painful to use.  It took me a while to learn that right-click paced things and that the cursor and selection wand appear pointless?  And I just learned that the +/- keys will change brush sizes.  Oy what a process.  Thanks for reducing some of the trial and error time, by taking the time to answer these questions.  I hope that others will use the boards search function to find your helpful summary.
