Elemental won't reinstall

When trying to down load current version of Elemental, download always ends with the message "File downloaded is smaller than expected" and stops. Because I had successfully installed then de-installed Elemental on this computer, I suspect there's a file hanging around (or maybe registry setting) that's causing the problem. But I've had no luck finding it. Can anyone offer constructive, helpful, and relevant solutions to my problem?

This error is typically caused by antivirus software, or other real-time network traffic filtering, interfering with the download process. Try adding an exception to or temporarily disabling your antivirus software to see if it resolves the problem.

Thanks for the swift reply.  I turned both the firewall and anti-virus prior to trying to re-install, I'll try again, but am not hopeful of any different result.

Tried two different techniques, but both failed.  Anybody else with suggestions?

I experienced the same problem: after downloading about 1.08 GB of the 1.89 GB download, the same error occurred. Retrying the download caused the same error at the same point three times in a row. I have no antivirus or firewall software installed on my Windows 7 installation and downloads via Steam have not gone wrong for me, even though those downloads are usually 3+ GB in size.

I was surprised that the software did not do a rollback of the last couple of MB downloaded and resumed from there. Re-downloading files this big because an error occurred somewhere at the end seems like such a waste of my time and your bandwidth.

Anyway, this is a +1 on the problem and I would appreciate if someone from Stardock can have a look at this. I just paid 35 euro for a game I can not download :-(

I've managed to find the Impulse error log entries for this, you can find them below. My goal was to install the latest beta version of Elemental, so I had enabled beta versions in the Impulse preference panel. Now I have disabled that setting, restarted Impulse and I'm downloading the stable version instead. I hope that I can then install the beta via an auto-update instead of a full install. I'll post an update when my download succeeds or fails.

The thing in the logs is that all the errors are the same except for the time at which they occur. Even the amount of bytes downloaded is the same. Could it be that the expected file size is based on either the full retail version of Elemental or an older beta?

Ok, the download and installation of the non-beta version of Elemental does work. The file size to download was the same as displayed for the beta version (1.89 GB), so I presume that is where the file size mixup comes from. Next step: enabling beta versions again and updating Elemental.

The update from retail to beta version went successful as well.

MadMerse, I would suggest you try to repeat the steps I described to see if it works for you as well.

Dewie, while I'm happy I can go play Elemental now, perhaps you can pass this bug on to whoever can look at it and fix it. That way future players will have a better first impression :-)

Cheers,
