Elemental does not start (CTD)

I just reinstalled Elemental to check the new beta patch but neither 1.09 nor the new beta version starts.

The launch window opens but after I click "Play Game" I only see a short black flash.

Cannot even find a debug-file in the game folder, can't try out settings, because the game does not start at all.

System: XP 32 Bit, 4 GB, Intel Quad 2 9600, ATI 5850 with 10.11 drivers, tried two different soundcards and different graphic settings (Vsync, AI etc.)

(Sorry, this was meant to be in the support section)

The debug.err file will be in My Documents/My Games/Elemental, not in the game's own folder--if it's getting far enough to blank the screen, there should definitely be a debug.err file there.
