Slow performance

I suppose things that don't get reported never get fixed, so please take this in a positive, constructive criticism light.

I've been plagued by slow Fences performance ever since I started using the product.  It's something I've noticed on any machine I use it on even if the hardware is healthily fast.  Pretty much anything related to the desktop is slow when there are many icons.  Scrolling is particularly troublesome.  A fence with a few dozen images in it will utterly kill performance to the point where I basically have to open an explorer window to Users\Profile\Desktop\ and deal with my files that way.

Anyhow, since a picture is worth a thousand words and a video is worth a thousand pictures, here's a million descriptive units in case it's helpful to see it actually happening instead of having to rely on what might otherwise be able to be dismissed as an unsubstantiated user complaint from someone who may not fully understand what is going on:

Example Video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N9-v6U0X5w&fmt=22

This is happening on a 6-core machine running at 3.82 GHz, has 8GB of DDR3-2000, and a Radeon 5850 so there shouldn't be any doubt as to if this system has a reasonable amount of resources/performance available.  It's not just some marginal $200 e-Machines from Wally which I think would let an issue like this be understandable.

I've seen others mention performance issues by my searches on Google.  I'm curious as to if this is something on the agenda.  I've only seen a single update to this product in the last year, so I have my doubts.

Thanks for your report. The developer is aware of the issue.

Hello,

My Fences Pro slow down after when I use button "Show desktop" - I check it on other computers and systems.

Stardock,

Does this occur with Nvidia cards?

If not, then I've a hunch it has something to do with ATI drivers and/or implementation in Win 7.

Thanks.

The latest version of Fences should have resolved this issue.  Please upgrade your Fences Pro or uninstall and reinstall the free version.  Please let us know if your performance issues have been resolved.

Hi,

I am having this same problem.

Intel Core i7 2600 with 8 gig ram, nVidia GTX560Ti with latest drivers.

Just reinstalled it and it didn't change anything. Read elsewhere that reducing number of fences helps, but made no difference to me.

I noticed that when I drag a fence, the explorer.exe process uses an entire core at 100% for the period, and has about 5 seconds of delay between my dragging and it following, like the fence is being dragged through molasses by a rubber band.

Anywho I think you guys know exactly what the problem is and I dare say you've fixed it, but I don't think the free version (which is what I have) has been updated since you fixed it. The free version is at 1.01 and the Pro version at 1.10.

Do you think you could push the updates to the free version so we can all have molasses free fences?
