Question about food and caravans

Ok..I saw, somewhere, that Caravans carry food to your towns from other towns, question is...How much food does one town need? I have my main city, which happens to be the only city with a farm anywhere near it, producing food with irrigation. So how much food does IT need and how can I gets its excess to my others, so that I can actually build Huts for them as well as other things I need?

I guess you found out by yourself by now, but just to be sure, I'll tell yoou about the food and general resources.

If one of your cities produce a surplus of food or any other resources (Gildar, Materials, Metal, crystals and so on), it goes into the big resource pool in the top bar and is acessable by every other city for use.

Food is needed for 2 things. To build huts (Later Shantries (only Imperiums) and Houses) that make your cities grow and to build buildings that generate money (merchants, markets...).

I hope I could help.

Ok..I get that, but how do I know how much food each city needs?

Caravans don't carry food. They arrive at a town and cause a percentage bonus to the food already produced there. So you can send a caravan from a town with no farm at all, and it will still create a food bonus in the town where it arrives. it is a percentage bonus, so the more caravans you can get arriving to the same town, the percentages will stack up nicely!

Before when i played without knowing this above facts, i had positive food in an average game of say around 30 and also having to have irrigation and silo's. Now, understanding caravans i can easily have food in the hundreds, with no irrigation or silo's!

nice...so every town that doesnt have food, send a caravan from it to a food producing town?  That the basic idea?

Almost... but try to pick your best producing town and send all the caravans to it, also producing towns can just as easily send caravans there as well.

I would personally love to be able to get a nice road network up and running first then destroy the caravans/rebuild and send it to the producing city, but i never know which caravan to delete, their not labeled which city they are from, so I'm not able to do the above idea.

Also another thing: the farest your town with your caravan is, the biggest the % bonus.
